Align & Integrate Key Components for Structured Literacy. Identify the key work needed to align and integrate vision (mindsets & behaviors), skills, incentives, and resources that support structured literacy implementation across the district.
To achieve systemic and sustainable change, all systems and structures must be aligned and integrated. Like a finished Rubix cube, our ultimate aim is a fully aligned and integrated system where all structures work toward successful implementation of the K-3 Literacy.
Imposter phenomenon occurs when one side looks complete, but others faces are not. This can happen in districts when parts of the system are aligned and other are not, or even when individual structures and systems are individually aligned, but not integrated.
Goal: To hone your team and individual skills related to identifying areas lacking cohesion and developing ways to solve these "hotspots" and move toward alignment and integration.
Instructions: Follow the 3 steps below to help your team identify "cohesion hotspots". These are the spots where all sides of your Rubik’s cube do not yet line up; the spots to improve cohesion (alignment + integration).
1. Explore the Pressure Test Card Deck with your district team. The deck includes key tools and structures that directly impact instruction.
2. Use the guiding questions to determine if the tool or structure is a hotspot for your district. Add notes from your team conversations which highlight evidence of this current hotspot.
3. Discuss with your team what you might do to begin to solve areas of missing alignment and/or integration. Add notes on your potential solutions, ideas, and next steps.
Cohesion Pressure Test Card Deck & Guiding Questions
Which areas are well-aligned and integrated? (e.g., vision, skills, resources, incentives).
What are the top hotspots we identified?
How do we want to get started with this?
Question 3: Describe alignment and integration (cohesion) of district systems and structures to ensure fidelity of implementation of the district-approved K-3 Instructional Block Approach.
