Sample 1st grade classroom schedule. 

• Morning instruction provides 40 minutes for daily whole group, systematic and highly structured science-based instruction in 1) Phonics, 2) Phonics-based Spelling instruction, and 3) Word Fluency. 

• Afternoon instruction includes 30 additional minutes for daily, whole group lessons focused on 1) Text Fluency, 2) Vocabulary and 3) Comprehension.

Teacher provides a Scientific Spelling lesson in a whole group format. 

Teacher provides small group instruction aimed at different learning objectives:

• Spelling instruction - decodable pattern

• Spelling Instruction - sight words 

• Guided reading - text fluency, vocabulary and comprehension 

• Guided reading - picture walk to activate background knowledge.

Teacher provides small group instruction while students actively engage in learning activities independently and collaboratively.

Teacher and student review iStation progress and set spelling goal for the upcoming week.
