All About Me

Meet Nurse Carter

I have been at Oakwood as the School Nurse for 8 years, with part of that time commuting between there and Stoney Creek. I enjoy traveling to new places with friends and family, trying new foods, mission projects at my church, and reading. I am married with 2 kids, Luke age 16 and Kara age 12.

Why School Nursing?

Before I became I school nurse, I was a Labor and Delivery nurse for 10 years. I never thought I would leave obstetrics. Helping women during their pregnancies and the in the birth process brought me such joy and fullfillment that I could not imagine doing anything else. But I am a woman of faith and I believe that God opened the door for me to try something else and that something else became school nursing. Now, as part of an interdiscipinary team, I can make a positive impact in the lives of children. From PreK to 5th grade, I love on these kids like they are my own and I want them to be their best selves. My goal for the students at Oakwood is for them to be healthy and happy kids with plans for the future. I encourage each of them to think about possible careers and life goals-planting seeds for future growth. I want my students to know that with hard work and the right attitude, they can succeed.
