I have been the lead school nurse for Caswell County Schools for 17 years and have seen it grow to having a full time school nurse at every school. It has been a pleasure to watch the kids grow from kindergarten to adulthood during my tenure. I have been married for 33 years and have 3 wonderful sons and 2 grandbabies. I enjoy decorating, relaxing by any body of water, and the nursing profession. Nursing has been my life for many years. I have worked in critical care, cardiac rehab, family practice, and home health. I have even worked in clinical research as well as been a legal nurse consultant. In addition to school nursing, I am currently on the committee that formulates testing questions for the National Board Certification Exam for School Nurses as well as on the Board of Directors for Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Danville, VA. Of all these areas of practice, I have found the most enjoyment and challenge in school nursing.
Why School Nursing?
School nursing is a rewarding career choice for those who are looking to make a difference in the lives of children. School nurses play an important role in the lives of their students, providing them with compassionate care and guidance.
Over the years, everyone in the education field, including school nurses, will have a positive impact on the lives of children. Most often, there will be several children whose lives you will influence in your job as a school nurse. Whether you speak up when you sense a problem at home, listen when they need an adult they can trust, or just provide comfort when they’re not feeling their best, children will remember their favorite school nurse fondly and think of you often as they grow older.
