There are many people at Castletroy College who are here to help your child learn, grow socially and emotionally, and navigate the school environment. Here's a selected list of who's who at our school. You might want to keep this list handy all year long.
The Senior Leadership Team
Brian O’Donoghue, Majella Hanrahan, Kieran Flannery, Lisa Kiely
The Senior Leadership Team sets the academic and administrative expectations for the school. They are responsible for ensuring the school meets the high expectations for teaching and learning. The SLT meet with teachers, work with staff, talk with parents and report to the school board. The Senior Leadership Team are the school's decision makers and chief public representatives. You may speak with any member of the Senior Leadership Team about your child or issues that concern you.
Year Head
The Year Head is the person responsible for the year group. They are likely to be the first point of contact that you have with matters relating to the school. They will get to know your child - their strengths and how to support them should they encounter any challenges.
Assistant Year Head
The Assistant Year Head works in partnership with the Year Head. They will get to know your child - their strengths and how to support them should they encounter any challenges. Subject Teachers
In secondary school students have different teachers for each subject. Secondary school teachers specialise in a specific subject, such as English, History or Woodwork. Whenever you have a concern about your child's academic progress, you should seek out your child’s year head or specific teachers.
Additional Educational Needs Coordinator
The AEN Coordinator work with a team Special Education Teachers to help children with learning difficulties and their families over an entire academic career. They work closely with general education teachers to coordinate students' individualised educational experiences and develop specific steps to support students. You may use the AEN Coordinator as a resource too in learning what to do at home to support with what your child is learning at school.
Special Needs Assistants
SNA’s offer support in a number of ways, often extending the individual attention that can be given to students. SNA’s work with specific students helping them participate successfully in school life. They focus on supporting identified primary care needs of students.
Guidance Counsellors
Our Guidance Counsellors help students with social, behavioural, and personal challenges to develop the life skills to succeed. At secondary school level, counsellors provide increasingly more vocational and academic counselling, including helping students evaluate their own interests and abilities. They also help students plan their post-graduation experiences, by advising them about college admissions, CV writing, apprenticeships, and more. You may want to speak with the guidance counsellor about your thoughts on your child's post-graduation opportunities.
Chaplain
The school chaplain is a faith presence in the school community who is available to all students and staff. They accompanies members of the school community on their journey through life. The chaplain’s non-disciplinary role in the school enables them to develop a relationship of trust with the students, staff and parents. They will respond firstly to the spiritual and religious needs of the students and the whole school community respecting the denominational, religious and personal convictions of all.
The chaplain ensures that the characteristic spirit of the school, reflecting the founding intention of the school and the school’s Mission Statement, finds practical expression in faith formation as well as pastoral, liturgical, para-liturgical and school outreach activities.
School Secretaries
The school secretaries play a critical role in managing the administrative work of the school, ranging from registering students to scheduling appointments, answering phone calls and a host of other tasks. They are the first people that you will meet when visiting the school. They will help you with any queries or to reach the person you need.
