LAST ONE STANDING
Congratulations to RYAN TIMLIN and SARAH ROSNEY who won our 'LAST ONE STANDING' competition. Each week I asked students to chose a Premier League team they felt would win their match at the weekend. If they won, that student would get through to the next round. If they lost or drew, they were out! The only catch is you can only choose a team ONCE through the competition. We ran it for the 8 weeks up to Hallowe'en and Ryan and Sarah chose correctly every week. Well done!
We have started a new competition that will run up to Christmas.
MATHS WEEK
We had MATHS WEEK in school last week and on Friday we played our CAPTURE THE FLAG game where children work in groups to solve and complete activities and get as many flags as possible. Mrs Slevin also challenged the children to estimate the amount, weight and length of various items.
If choosing between being right or being kind, CHOOSE KIND
This is a motto or precept that comes up in our book WONDER and we felt it was a good 'rule' to follow. We created posters using Word Art in Google Slides and coloured them in.
Eddie O' Neill
We are delighted to have Eddie O' Neill and his mix of African drums in school every Wednesday over the next few weeks. The children will learn how to play these drums and the different tones and rythyms that can be played on them. Thank you to Mrs. Dunne for organising.
Mrs. Slevin's Nature Challenge
Mrs. Slevin set the class a Nature Challenge last week where the kids had to go outside, find and photograph 12 specific native species of plants and trees. After researching what these 12 species look like, the kids had lots of fun running around trying to find them around the school. We then used our Chromebooks to create a Google Doc with pictures and titles for each species.
We are currently reading the novel WONDER by RJ Palacio.
The book centres on Auggie Pullman, a boy with significant facial differences who enters mainstream school for the first time.
We are reading a chapter a day and have a class discussion on the events that are occurring in the book, as well as learning all the new vocabulary and phrases therein.
We are going to start activities on PERSUASIVE WRITING, RECOUNT WRITING and DIARY WRITING soon and I will publish work here.
Colin Hughes
I'm from Tullamore originally, but now live at Killoughey Cross with my wife and three children. For the past 12 years, I've been teaching in Carbury, Co. Kildare, mostly as a senior class teacher. I am delighted to take up the job in Castlecuffe NS as my family have had such positive experiences in the school and wider community. I'm looking forward to getting to know parents and children over the next while.
