No entrance fee - it's free! Even though there will be NO climbing or gym equipment use allowed at our event, you will need to complete a waiver to be inside the gym: WAIVER — Volcanic Rock Gym
All aspects of the event are free -panels, book clubs, readings, and writing feedback. We do recommend bringing money to buy books and bookish items to support the vendors at this pop-up. If you're trying to decrease your use of large retailers and online giants, this is the perfect opportunity to get new books (and bonus, they'll be signed and you'll get to meet the writer!).
Saturday June 6, 2026 at Volcanic Rock Gym in Kailua, 161 Hamakua Drive Kailua, Hawaii 96734
We recommend ages 12 and up - we imagine it could be very difficult to keep excited little ones off the rock walls (who could blame them - it looks fun and is fun!) and the content of the books is all for young adult and adult audiences.
Join the fun to enter into our FREE giveaways! We will have prizes and raffles are all no purchase necessary.
Want to increase your chances of winning? Make a purchase at the festival and get an extra ticket PER author/vendor you purchase items worth $10.00 or more from.
*Must be present to win
By popular demand, we will bring back the Scavenger Hunt! We ran out of cards and prizes before the second hour of the main festival, so we know people enjoyed it. Join the fun and match the clues on your card to the authors at the festival! Once your card is full, you'll have a great momento with autographs and stickers/stamps. Bring your completed card back to the welcome table for a prize! (prizes vary and are limited. Limit one scavenger hunt card per participant).
Not this time - but remember, there is no climbing during the Oahu Indie Book Festival event. If you think climbing looks like fun, you can always grab (or win!) a day pass and come back the next day/week/month and give it a try (just don't blame us if you get hooked on bouldering - it's fun).
We are grateful to Volcanic Rock Gym for truly standing by their community and helping us create this pop-up. When the big storm hit on February 21st and many people from Kaneohe and Kailua that wanted to come to the main festival couldn't make it, we were flooded with DMs filled with disappointment. This is our best effort to bring some of the festival magic and opportunities to that side of the island. We couldn't do it without other locally owned businesses leaning into caring for their communities. At Volcanic Rock Gym, their slogan is: "Come for the climbs, stay for the community" and they really do work hard to foster that safe space and sense of caring.
Yes! We don't have the sign-ups open yet, but we anticipate getting that in place by early May. These spots will be around 15 to 20 minutes, and you'll need to provide a short piece of writing (word count limits to be announced with spot sign-ups.) Our participating editors and authors will read your piece and give you feedback, and answer questions you may have.
Keep in mind that writing is subjective, and the feedback given by eny author or editor represents their own personal opinions. You will be able to sign-up for which individual available that you would like feedback from, so we recommend reading a bit about each opton first.
