This Course aims to provide students with opportunities for self-expression and assist them to develop to their full potential. Students will gain skills in playing, singing, composing, and listening. These skills will be developed in and through a range of musical contexts.
This full year course allows the opportunity for students who enjoy music making to continue developing skills on their instrument and to participate in a wide variety of musical activities including Solo and Group performance, Composition, theoretical training and exposure to a variety of music styles. This course is the best course to prepare students for either Music studies or Contemporary Music at NCEA Level 1.
This half year course is designed for students who have an interest in music but do not necessarily intend to continue with Music at a senior level. Students will develop skills in performance on Keyboard and Guitar, Composition and music appreciation of a range of contemporary styles of music. This course can lead into Contemporary Music 121, but in consultation with your music teacher.
This course develops musical ability and gives a wide exposure to various styles of music. Students focus on performances skills (both solo and group), Composition, Aural Awareness, Score Reading and Music History. The course is a mix of internal and external standards and offers the potential for course endorsement.
Building on Level 1 Music Studies, Performance, Composition, Aural and Musicological skills are developed further. This course also introduces a new standard of Instrumentation. Students will also study, compare and contrast classical music works with contemporary works. The course is a mix of internal and external standards and offers the potential for course endorsement.
Prepares students for moving into Tertiary Study in Music. Given the huge range of standards offered, students are able to decide on an individual education programme that best suits their interests and talents. Choosing from Performance (Solo and Group), Composition, Song-writing, Arrangement, Research, Conducting, Aural Awareness, Harmony and Counterpoint. The course is a mix of internal and external standards and offers the potential for course endorsement and University Entrance, depending on the standards selected by the student.
This course includes Solo and Group Performance, Composition and Aural Awareness. In addition, this course also introduces students to music technology with an emphasis on sound systems, recording software and equipment. This course is internally assessed only.
Continues to progress students’ skills in Performance, Composition, Aural and Theory in a contemporary context. Students work with logic ProX and will be introduced to more advanced recording and mixing skills. This course is internally assessed only.
Prepares students for Tertiary Study in Music. Students are able to decide on an individual education programme that best suits their interests and talents. Choosing from Performance (solo and group), Composition, Song-writing and Music Technology using Logic Pro X (recording, editing and mixing MIDI and audio). Students will also organise and run an event at the end of the year called the ‘321 Showcase’. This course is internally assessed only and offers the potential for University Entrance, depending on the standards selected by the student.
A unique course allowing students to learn about lighting and sound production. Students learn about technology while building practical skills for specific Music and Drama events. There are no prerequisites and the course can be taken at Levels 1, 2 and 3. This is an ideal course to take in conjunction with a Music, Drama or Dance course, for those students who want to immerse themselves in the performing arts.
Building on the skills from Level 1, students will learn practical skills in Lighting, Sound and Stage Management for events. They will be actively involved in many school events throughout the year and learn hands-on practical skills including operation of an EWP (Elevated Work Plaform).
Students focus on design and implementation of Lighting, Sound and Stage Management. While the focus is on school events, students will get opportunities for external events and venues such at the Town Hall, Events Centre, Isaac Theatre Royal etc.
