House Captains
Role Description
The aim of the House Captain is to actively coordinate and lead house-based activities throughout the school year. House Captains are members of the Student Council and work closely with their Head of House.
Selection process:
There are 2 House Captain positions for each House that students can apply for.
Students apply in writing through the Leadership Site for a position as a House Captain stating their reasons for applying, and qualities and strengths that they bring to the position. Students should highlight relevant involvement and achievements at school including academic, co-curricular, community service and any leadership positions held in school or outside of school. They should also highlight any initiatives that they might have for the position.
Students will be short listed, and interviewed by the Head of House or Head of School.
Final decisions are at the discretion of the Principal.
Criteria for appointment: The appointments are made at the judgement of the Head of House, the Head of School and the Associate Principal. The candidate’s written application and interview are taken into account. The candidate’s previous record will also be considered (e.g. school involvement, academic and co-curricular achievements). The selected students must positively represent the school’s values.
Expectations (roles and responsibilities) of House Captains:
To be a strong and positive role model around the school for younger students (e.g. good behaviour, personal dress, school values, involvement in school activities). This also includes having positive personal conduct within the school’s wider community.
To embody the spirit of the school, lead by example with enthusiasm and be a role model for the school’s COVE values.
To bring to this role your own initiative and style, working with other House Captains as a collaborative team, and lead by positive example for the good of the whole school.
To run House assemblies, communicate house events and outcomes, and recruit students from within the house for events.
To write an annual review of the House for the Lymphad.
