Artist of the Month

Each month we will learn about a famous artist that has left a mark in art history. Some of the artwork you will recognize and some will be completely new. Some art you will think looks cool and some of the art you won't like at all. The idea is to open your eyes to a wide variety of art mediums and techniques.

1.) Pablo was born in Malaga, Spain in 1881

2.) Picasso's father was an art teacher. Both his parents wanted Picasso to become a great artist some day.

3.) Picasso's art style went through many different changes throughout his lifetime.

4.) Picasso would paint things very flat sometimes and sometimes he would paint them very round.

5.) The Blue Period was a time when Picasso was very sad. Most of his artwork was painted with the color blue. The subjects of his paintings looked sad and lonely.

6.) When Picasso fell in love, his art style changed. The colors brightened and the paintings showed happier images.

7.) Picasso was responsible for the one of the most important periods in modern art: Cubism

8.) Cubism was a funny period when things didn't look the way traditional artists painted them.

9.) Picasso was known for his imagination and desire to try new things.

10.) The artist died at the age of 91. Throughout his life he created sculptures, paintings, drawings, and colorful ceramic dishes and bowls.
