The following maps/dashboards, and tables have been provided to help understand what, where, and when crime is occurring in select areas of the City of Cleveland.
The crime data below is based on the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) coded incident data submitted by the Cleveland Division of Police to Ohio Criminal Justice Services. These data are only representative of the Cleveland Division of Police and do not include other police agencies operating in the city, such as CMHA. The same data used for these tables is used for the interactive maps/visualizations. Neighborhood population estimates were calculated by the Begun Center team using a combination of neighborhood boundaries, US Census population estimates, and census tract boundaries using TigerLine shapefiles (2019); population counts were used to develop crime rates.
Important note regarding UCR data. There are often multiple individuals reported as victims in each individual police incident. There are also often multiple crime-types (UCR codes) reported for an individual incident. For this analysis, we did not remove "duplicate" incident reports when multiple individuals were reported in the same incident. The counts/frequencies reflect the number of victims who were reported having been associated with a specific UCR code. For example, if two people were reported to have been victims of '13A Aggravated Assault`, although they were reported in the same incident number, we included two (2) instances of aggravated assault. This method ensures that the number of victims, or severity of the crime(s), is included in the analysis, rather than removing/eliminating information.

The UCR codes are how you can view different crime types. For example, UCR code 240 is for motor vehicle theft. There is a dropdown menu just below the first dashboard/map; use this list as a reference/dictionary to then select a code of choice from the dropdown "UCR Code" filter on the top left of the map below. You can also use the other visuals including the map (click on a neighborhood, for example) to filter further.
