Prospective PhD Students: We may have the opportunity to welcome a new PhD student through the 2025-26 graduate admissions cycle. There are two projects for which opportunities currently exist: (a) measurement and modeling of spatial and temporal variations in urban air quality (with connections to public health), (b) field and laboratory measurements linking phosphate oxygen isotope compositions to phosphorus biogeochemistry and water quality. There may also be a possibility for research linked to reconstructing terrestrial paleoclimate/paleoseasonality.
We welcome applications from students who are creative, motivated, and hard-working and with backgrounds ranging from geoscience to chemistry to environmental microbiology and beyond. We seek students who are confident in their quantitative skills and who have a passion for research. You can read more about our department's graduate program here:
https://eeps.case.edu/graduate-programs/
Over their first two years, our graduate students frequently take classes in our department, Chemistry, Biology, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Applied Data Science, Applied Math, and others. Course listings can be found in the CWRU General Bulletin.
The heart of our program, though, is the mentoring of graduate students through their research and professional development. We aim to develop the next generation of leaders in research and education.
If you are interested in joining the Colman lab, please read through some of our recent research papers on topics that most interest you. (Don't hesitate to email me if you are having difficulties accessing particular papers; I'll send you the PDFs). Then send me an email that includes:
a brief summary of your academic background
an explanation of why you would like to pursue graduate school
what about my group's research interests you
a resume/CV
an informal/unofficial transcript.
