Welcome To Second Grade
I grew up in Mercersburg, PA. I graduated from Shippensburg University with a B.S. in Social Work. I worked for 7 years then became a stay-at-home mom for approximately 10 years. When my oldest began high school, I decided to continue my education and earned a teaching certificate from Wilson College as well as my mMaster's Educational Technology. I have taught first, third, and second grade for the last 10 years. I live in Chambersburg with my husband Robb and we have four children, Amelia , Audrey, Abram, and Andrea. Amelia is a physical therapist and was married to our new son-in-law, Brandon, this summer. Audrey is part-time at Day program and part-time at home with her personal care attendant. Abram is a senior at Penn College of Technology majoring in Welding Fabrication. Andrea is a Junior at Penn State majoring in Nursing and the star of the house is Parker, our dog.

I love to work on the farm (every single day) and drink coffee! (Lots of it!) I am a huge soccer fan and love to watch the game with my family. You will learn a lot more about me as we spend more time together in the classroom and I'm excited to get to know each and every one of my new students. It is going to be a different and adventurous year. Hang on tight! We are going to do the best that we can to be successful.

Dear Parents,
Welcome to a very exciting year in your child’s school career! Second grade is incredible as you watch your child’s skills grow and develop. They will learn so many new and wonderful things. During second grade, they will learn to write detailed stories, become fluent readers who cite evidence to substantiate their thoughts and opinions, increase math skills focusing on addition and subtraction, and develop a deeper understanding of science and social studies. We are departmentalized in second grade. This means your children will switch classes between the three teachers. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to your homeroom teacher or any one of us and we will try to help you. I will try to make your child’s learning experience a fun, challenging, and exciting one. I hope to instill a love of learning that will last throughout your child’s years of schooling. Please feel free to reach out to me when or if you have concerns and we will work together to make this a dynamic learning year for your child.

Dear Second Grader,
I am so excited to have you in my class this year! We will learn so much and have fun at the same time. I hope you are as thrilled about the new school year as I am. I am positive you will enjoy this year. We have many activities planned for the first week that will make you want to be part of our school all the time. We will do our best to get to know each other until we get to come to school each day. Plus, you will be making many new friends this year! I think you will find that I am a good listener and I am here to help you at all times. Please come to me if you have something to share, when you are confused, or when you are excited. Together, we will make this year great!

These items will be needed for virtual learning and also for when we resume face to face instruction. This is my first year not using community bins and supplying all materials, but I felt by having students have their own materials will keep us safer and in school longer.
