Title I is the largest federally funded program in education. It was signed into law in 1965 by President Lyndon Johnson.
Title I provides funds for additional intervention specialists and/or aides. Funds are also available to purchase additional resources like books, supplemental reading materials, and educational games. It requires parent and family engagement through school visits, educational activities, and resources sent home with students.
Fayetteville Elementary is a school-wide Title I building, which means that more students qualify for free or reduced lunches than the district’s average. All students at Fayetteville are able to receive a free breakfast and free lunch daily.
The Title I grant pays for extra books and materials that teachers can use to help your child learn. In addition, Title I funding is used to pay for reading and math intervention specialists, who work with children to develop literacy and mathematical skills.
Title I Parent and Family Engagement money is used to buy resources and books that are sent home. It also pays for family events held during and after school.
Children are selected based on various assessment results as well as from teacher recommendations.
Assessments we use:
Kindergarten: Letter identification, Acadience Reading and Math, Measures of Academic Progress (MAP; computerized assessment), high frequency words, math screeners
1st - 5th grade: Acadience Math and Reading, MAP, high frequency words, math screeners
Title I staff conduct small group or individual interventions by either pushing into the classroom or pulling students out of the classroom. Children who receive reading intervention partake in guided reading, word work, and writing. Children who receive math interventions receive skills based instruction on various math concepts.
