VFW Auxiliary's Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest

Deadline: March 31, 2020

Each year, more than 4,000 high school students from across the country participate in the VFW Auxiliary's Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest. The contest began in 1979 to recognize up-and-coming artists and encourage patriotism in youth. This scholarship is open to any student in grades 9-12 who is enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States. The first-place winner from each state competes for national awards totaling $31,000.

APRIL SCHOLARSHIPS

AFSA High School Senior College Scholarship Contest

Deadline: April 1, 2020

This scholarship is open to 2019-2020 high school seniors who want to pursue a college degree or trade school education. Home schooled students may apply as long as their course of study is equivalent to that of a senior in high school. Students may enter for the chance to win one of 10 $2,000 college scholarships. The American Fire Sprinkler Association created the college scholarship program to help with the educational and training pursuits of students just like you. In addition, AFSA wants to educate the public at-large about the life-saving properties of automatic fire sprinklers. So, if you meet the contest requirements and want to learn a little during the process, please enter and good luck! Relatives of AFSA staff or National AFSA board members may not enter the contest.

Project Yellow Light - Hunter Garner Scholarship

Project Yellow Light is a scholarship competition designed to bring about change. As an applicant you have one clear mission: encourage your peers to develop and embrace safe driving habits. Too apply, you must create a video or radio spot designed to motivate, persuade and encourage your peers to not drive distracted. You have a unique opportunity to play a key role in spreading this important message. You can speak to your peers on this subject in a way that adults cannot. The more lives you can impact, the more lives you can save. For the video competition, in both the high school and college categories, the first-place winner will receive a scholarship in the amount of $5,000. Second-place finisher will receive $2,000. Third-place finisher will receive $1,000. For the radio competition, first place will receive $2,000.

Oklahoma Association of Minorities in Career and Technology Education - Renae Washington-Lorine DuBose Memorial Scholarship

Deadline: April 3, 2020

OAMCTE provides two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each to deserving minority students who plan to continue their education. Applicants must plan to enroll in a full-time program at an Oklahoma Career and Technology Center or as a full-time student in an accredited institution of higher learning for the fall semester of 2020 and the spring semester of 2021.

Prospective Educator Scholarships

The Phi Delta Kappa Educational Foundation awards 100 scholarships each year to prospective educators who have a connection to PDK by having a family member or teacher who is a PDK member or through membership in Educators Rising. PDK uses one application for all Prospective Educator Scholarships. Scholarships are available for high school seniors as well as current undergraduate students.

American Foreign Service Association (AFSA) National High School Essay Contest

The United States has many tools to advance and defend its foreign policy and national security interests around the world-from diplomatic approaches pursued by members of the Foreign Service, to the range of options available to the U.S. military. In countries affected by or vulnerable to violent conflict, peacebuilding tools are important additions to the national security toolkit. In a 1,000-1,250-word essay, identify how members of the Foreign Service work with other civilian parts of the U.S. Government to promote peace, national security and economic prosperity. Your essay should focus on a specific challenge to U.S. peace and prosperity, and must include one example of the work of the Foreign Service and one or more examples of collaboration between America's diplomats and other civilian (i.e. non-military) U.S. Government agencies or organizations.Students whose parents are not in the Foreign Service are eligible to participate if they are in grades nine through twelve in any of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. territories, or if they are U.S. citizens attending high school overseas. Students may be attending a public, private, or parochial school. Entries from home-schooled students are also accepted. The winner receives $2,500, a trip to Washington, D.C., and an all-expense paid educational voyage courtesy of Semester at Sea.

The American Legion Legacy Scholarship

Since the inception of The American Legion Legacy Scholarship in 2001 following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, The American Legion has offered its support to the children of fallen post-9/11 servicemembers through this scholarship. Beginning with the 2017 award year, The American Legion expanded the scholarship to include children of VA-rated, post-9/11 veterans with a combined disability of 50 percent or higher. Their organization remains committed to honoring the memory and service of fallen and disabled comrades by ensuring their children are afforded the best possible educational opportunities. Multiple scholarships of up to $20,000 are awarded.

College JumpStart Scholarship

The College JumpStart Scholarship is an annual, merit-based competition -- financial need is not considered -- that is open to 10th-12th graders, college students and non-traditional students. The main requirements are that you are committed to going to school and can express your goals for getting a higher education. The first place prize is a $1,000 scholarship to help cover educational expenses. This award can be used at any college or university in the United States. To apply for the College JumpStart Scholarship you must meet the following requirements: (1) High school 10th-12th grader, college student or non-traditional student; (2) U.S. citizen or legal resident; (3) Attend or plan to attend an accredited 2-year, 4-year or vocational/trade school in the U.S.; (4) Be committed to using education to better your life and that of your family and/or community.

Diabetes Scholars Foundation

The Diabetes Scholars Foundation's college scholarship program is available to incoming freshmen with Type 1 diabetes who are US citizens or permanent residents seeking a higher education at an accredited four-year university, college, technical, or trade school. This scholarship recognizes students who have high academic performance, are actively involved in the diabetes community, participate in community and/or extra-curricular activities and who have demonstrated that they are successfully managing the challenges of living with diabetes. Diabetes Scholars Foundation scholarships are not based on financial need. Students complete one application to be considered for over 40 scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 each.

The Ayn Rand Institute - Anthem

E-waste Scholarship

Deadline: April 30, 2020

This scholarship winner will receive a $1,000 award. The purpose of this scholarship is to help you understand the impact of e-waste and what can be done to reduce e-waste. You must be a high school freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior or a current or entering college or graduate school student of any level. Home schooled students are also eligible. There is no age limit. You must also be a U.S. citizen or legal resident. Complete the application form including a 140-character message about e-waste. The top 10 applications will be selected as finalists. The finalists will be asked to write a full length 500- to 1,000-word essay about e-waste.

American Indian College Fund

The American Indian College Fund (AICF) was established in 1989 to provide scholarships to American Indian/Alaska Native students attending tribal colleges. The AICF is devoted to funding and creating awareness about the community-based accredited tribal colleges and universities that offer students access to knowledge and skills alongside Native culture, language, and values. This scholarship program is designed to prepare students for careers as graduate students, professors or professional researchers. Applicants must be full-time college students, have completed 42 hours or more, maintain a 3.0 GPA, and be a first generation college student or a student from an underrepresented ethnic group.
