Reading Calendar Guidelines

Weekly Homework:

  • Students are required to read 5 nights each week. They may choose the nights they want to read.
  • Students are required to read at least 20 minutes.
  • Students must have a parent or guardian sign or initial each night they read. There should be four initials per week. Make this is your child’s responsibility to bring you the calendar.
  • Students can choose what they want to read. It should be for fun!!
  • Students need to return their calendars to school every MONDAY to be checked by Ms. Hensley. Otherwise, they may leave it at home.

Monthly Homework:

  • Within the month, students must have read one chapter book, and two magazine or newspaper articles.
  • At the end of the month, students must get a parent signature at the bottom of the “Reading Calendar” page. Please turn this is on the last day of the month as marked on the calendar.
  • If students complete their required reading for the month, teachers will add them to a list for a pizza party at the end of the year.
  • At the end of the month, students who turn in a completed, signed calendar will receive a “special” surprise.
