Dear CAS students and parents,
I'm back! You're back! We're all back for a fantastic new year--2022.
You can call me "Mr. Dave." I'm your social studies teacher.
Did you know that we live in one of the most geographically and historically amazing places on the planet? I have gone far to appreciate this fact by living at Lake Atitlan since the early 2000's, by getting a Master’s degree from the University of Texas in 2011, and by serving in local Mayan "brotherhoods" Santiago Atitlan. I have also taught at four academic institutions in the Atitlan basin as well as at the UVG Sur (Education Department) during that time.
Places I have traveled during my life have taught me to respect the diversity of humanity. This includes people and places in many locations in North America, Central America, and Europe, as well as parts of Africa, Asia, and South America. Here in Guatemala, I am reminded -- such as that time 15 years ago when I stood with my father, brother, and brother in-law atop the Mundo Perdido temple at Tikal, at night and under the full moon -- that your country is truly a world-class destination that possesses a ton of fascinating treasures and secrets. Finding connections between the past and present, and teaching about them, is my specialization. I look forward to a great year as your teacher! Feel free to write or schedule office hours.
See you soon.
