In 2022, a group of friends and I decided to start a YouTube channel: Skeleton Crew. Two years later, we have over 10,500 subscribers and we average about 50,000 unique viewers per month; in its lifetime, our videos have had over 1.5 million views.
The primary goal of our channel is to make recent paleontological research and other scientific topics accessible through discussion centered on video games and other popular media.
We have also used the channel to raise over $15,000 for charitable causes, including the Trevor Project, which provides LGBTQ+ youth in crisis with counseling services, and the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology's Futures Award, which funds research projects for undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds.
