CLOUDLAND HIGH SCHOOL
PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY
2018-2019
A. Cloudland High School will request parental input on school matters during the following meetings: parent/teacher conferences and freshman orientation.
B. Cloudland High School will inform parents about the course of study for their children and ways in which they may have access to learning materials. This will be done at the first parent/teacher conference and at our Annual Title I Meeting. Copies of the curriculum will be made available to parents, upon request. A syllabus will be distributed to parents at the parent/teacher conferences and will be available on our school website. Parents will be invited on field trips so that they may see how these trips relate to the students’ course of study. The guidance counselor will share information about Tennessee Promise and the Work-Ethic Diploma. Students’ course of study for high school will also be discussed at the freshman orientation meeting.
C. Cloudland High School will establish strategies for parent participation designed to improve parent and teacher cooperation with homework, attendance, and discipline. CHS will send parents the following: parent/school compacts, list of possible parent involvement strategies, progress reports, and grade cards. CHS will conduct needs assessment survey for parents of our programs. Parents will be notified about our parent center in the library. Parents will be informed about truancy and attendance policies. Six-week failure notices will be mailed home or parents will be telephoned by Mrs. Benfield, Mrs. Back, Mr. Potter, Ms. Shellie McKinney, and/or the classroom teacher. Announcements of school happenings will be placed on the CHS marquee, on the school website, and on the school messenger system in order to keep parents informed. Transportation can be provided to meetings as needed.
D. Cloudland High School will send communications home in as many languages as applies to our school if at all possible. We will survey our community for experts in the verbalization of other languages. CHS will ensure that all of our buildings are handicap feasible.
E. Cloudland High School, as a Title I school, will ensure that we are in compliance with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), December, 2015. The following strategies will be put in place in order to accomplish this: address the importance of communication with parents, offer parents the opportunity to observe classrooms, offer parents training on child development, parenting skills, helping students at home, and develop partnerships with community based organizations and businesses.
