What is L3?
Purpose of L3
The purpose of L3 is to develop a new approach to assessment and accountability in the state of Kentucky by:
● Involving the broader community in an equitable partnership based on co-creation with the district and its educators.
● Developing capacities and structures for reciprocity within local geographical communities, between local learning communities and the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE)
● Establishing cycles of inquiry in Local Laboratories of Learning
● Connecting Local Laboratories of Learning in a network for purposes of sharing learning, building capacity, and synthesizing insights for KDE
● Build more equitable and liberatory systems through transformational leadership habits of empathy, inclusion, co-creation, and reciprocity
Goal of Carter County L3
Establish Systems of Student-Centered Personalized Success that includes:
Personal Success Profiles (for students and educators) that includes the learner as part of the planning process for their educational experience
A framework of relevant, personalized Durable Skills and competencies aligned to the needs of the learner and the community.
Advising, mentorships, counseling with adults across the school, district and community who can help the student successfully plan for their future
Student-centered educational experiences within and beyond the school.

"How Might We..." Problem Statement
How might we engage all students (and staff) in innovative and personalized learning experiences so that learners are authentically engaged in their own pathway(s), encouraged to demonstrate their learning in relevant ways and are supported in planning for the next level of learning through systems of advising and mentoring?
