Lesson Exemplar 5_7E'S
Lesson Exemplar 5 applies the 7E instructional model, which extends the traditional 5E framework by adding "Elicit" and "Extend" phases. This approach enhances student engagement by activating prior knowledge, fostering inquiry, and deepening understanding through exploration, explanation, elaboration, and evaluation. By integrating reflection and application, the lesson encourages critical thinking, creativity, and meaningful learning experiences.
Reflection:
In crafting this lesson exemplar using the 7Es model—Elicit, Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Extend, and Evaluate—expanded my perspective on student-centered instruction. This lesson exemplar made me realize the importance of continuously checking for understanding and extending learning beyond the classroom. I found the activities like building particle models and relating them to real-world examples particularly effective. The "Extend" phase stood out to me because it pushed students to apply concepts in practical contexts, which I think is often overlooked. One challenge I experienced was distinguishing between similar stages like Elaborate and Extend, but eventually, I understood how each has its role in deepening learning. This lesson model is closely aligned with our course goals—encouraging future teachers to design engaging, scaffolded lessons that promote scientific thinking and real-life application. Overall, the 7Es approach reinforced my belief that effective teaching goes beyond coverage of content; it's about connection, application, and continuous growth for both teacher and learner.
