Independent Self Care Skills
Independent, Self-Care Skills
This may be the first time children will have to handle doing some things on their own. Learning some of these self care tasks will help your child be independent and confident in Kindergarten.
Teach your child to:
Put on and take off jacket
Blow nose and dispose of tissue
Wash and dry hands with soap and water in a public restroom
Open containers for lunch (string cheese, fruit cups, water bottle, milk carton)
Button and zipper clothing
Tie or velcro shoes
Use a public style restroom: Ask to use the bathroom, walk to the bathroom, close the door, pull down pants/undergarments to use bathroom appropriately, wipe independently, pull pants/undergarments back up, flush the toilet, wash and dry hands, return to classroom. Boys may need instruction on the proper use of urinals that are found in the boys restroom.
Follow 2-3 step directions: Go to your cubby, get your jacket and lunch, walk back to our line (school) OR brush your teeth, put on your shoes, get your water bottle (home).
