General formatting reminders

A MLA paper uses the following style conventions.

  • There are several allowable fonts in MLA, but most instructors expect to see Times New Roman, 12 pt. font. Be aware that Arial, 11 pt. font is the default font in Google Docs. You must use the same font throughout the entire paper.

  • Double space the entire paper. Do not add extra lines after headings or between paragraphs.

  • 1 inch margins (this is the default margin for Google Docs, so no need to change the settings)

  • Left-aligned text

  • .5 inch indent (this is the default margin for Google Docs, so no need to change the settings)
