Dear Parent/Guardian and CHS Student,

Thank you for your interest in Dual Enrollment. Please carefully review all the information on this page to determine if Dual Enrollment is right for you. Below you will find important information about Dual Enrollment, instructions for how to complete the application process, and instructions for how to complete the participation agreement and funding application through GAFutures (this step is the process through which the State of Georgia pays for all courses taken through Dual Enrollment).

Dual Enrollment – REQUIRED Annual Steps for Students and Parents

The Dual Enrollment Funding Portal is now OPEN (as of 2/26). Each year, BOTH the student and a parent/guardian must complete the Dual Enrollment Participation Agreement & Funding Application through GAFutures.

Please follow these steps carefully:

1. Go to www.gafutures.org

2. Log into your account (or create one if needed)

3. Make sure your Social Security Number is added to your profile

4. In the left column, click “My Dual Enrollment Profile”

5. Click “Apply for Dual Enrollment”

6. Verify your information and parent email address (you will add a parent email if you are new to DE)

7. Select the 2026–2027 funding year

8. Select what grade level you will be in during the 26-27 year

9. Select the college/university in which you plan to take dual enrollment classes

10. **new for 26-27** Residency requirements must be met. (See graphic below for details).

Students must meet citizenship and Georgia residency requirements.

11. Upon completion of the student app, the student will receive a DE# to share with the parent.

12. The parent/guardian must complete the parent agreement (required) that will be emailed after the

student completes their part or parents can see link here.

⚠️ Important:

Students WILL NOT be registered for Dual Enrollment classes until BOTH the student and parent portions are

completed and approved.

Dual Enrollment Student Presentation

Below are a few points of interest to help students and parents understand the dual enrollment program. Please read each item carefully and, should you wish to participate in dual enrollment, please email your school counselor.

Benefits:

Each college course taken will earn the student a credit toward both high school and college graduation requirements.
Eligible students may participate in high school competitive and other extracurricular events.
Courses do not count against any maximum hourly caps for the HOPE scholarships or grants.
Dual Enrollment Introduces students to college-level coursework.
Earning college credits while still in high school may enable students to graduate early and/or possibly earn up to 30 hours of college credit toward an associate degree, diploma, or certificate.
Dual enrollment helps students adjust to certain aspects of the college experience (e.g., classes, coursework, and instruction, being on a college campus) so that the transition from high school to college may be easier.
Students who participate in a dual enrollment program are more likely to go to college and earn a degree.
Students may be able to take classes that are not offered at their high school, especially in subject areas they are interested in for a potential career.

Risks:

Dropping a college level course after the college/university drop/add period will result in a “Z” on the high school academic transcript, and students will be enrolled in an additional course or courses at the high school to complete their high school schedule.
If a student drops 2 college classes after the drop/add period, they are no longer eligible to participate in the dual enrollment program.
If a student fails a college course, they will not receive dual enrollment funding to retake that course.
Any “D” made in a college course will result in the student being placed on academic probation. Students will receive a 70 on the high school transcript that will be weighted as a 1.0 on the GPA scale.
Students must meet state Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements. Students must pass 67% (or ⅔) of all attempted courses and maintain a qualifying GPA. A grade of “W” counts against SAP. Students are no longer eligible to participate in the dual enrollment program if they do not meet SAP Requirements. Students who do not meet this requirement when they graduate from high school will not be eligible for any financial aid (including the HOPE scholarship) in post-secondary work until the minimum of 67% is met.

Failure to successfully complete college classes that are required for high school graduation will impact the student’s ability to graduate.
Students are solely responsible for communicating with the professor and other college staff. College staff will not share any student information with parents or high school counselors, unless the student has signed a FERPA Release, so it is crucial that the student is assertive and mature enough to deal with all aspects of the college course.

Reminders:

Students interested in enrolling at WGTC for Welding - please note this is a competitive program and Carroll County Schools is ONLY provided 10 slots.
Only core classes will be weighted on the academic transcript (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Language).
Dual enrollment students may participate for 10th-12th grade years but not beyond.
Dual enrollment courses are included in the initial eligibility calculation for the HOPE scholarship. Once a student is enrolled in a post-secondary institution, HOPE GPA calculations will start over.
While tuition, fees, and books are covered by the State of Georgia for dual enrollment courses, parents and students are required to pay course specific fees (if any - ie. Communication Fee, Welding Materials, Scrubs, Hair Tools, etc.).

Students frequently receive mass emails about billing that DO NOT apply to them as they are meant for traditional college students.

Student is responsible for setting up and checking email accounts of secondary institution and post-secondary institution weekly (or even more frequently if used by professors) as this is the primary method of contact by high school counselors and post secondary dual enrollment coordinators.
If you have accommodations through an IEP or 504 Plan, please visit UWG's Office of Accessibility Services to submit your paperwork. If you plan to attend WGTC, please visit their website for instructions. If you plan to attend Truett McConnell, please visit their website for instructions.

The Dual Enrollment program allows students to participate in college classes while still in high school. The responsibility for application, testing, scheduling, and all paperwork requirements rests with the student and parent.

Apply to the college of choice by going to the post-secondary school’s Dual Enrollment website - our students typically go to UWG or WGTC. Make sure you enter your full legal name. You must select the term you plan to begin (summer, fall, or spring). When you reach the part of the online application where it asks for payment, DO NOT PAY! Your application will be processed from that point by the college. You must submit all paperwork when due before you can be accepted.

UWG and WGTC require you to send a transcript. Go to GAFutures.org, click on “College Planning” then scroll down to “High School Transcripts”. Transcripts are released each Wednesday.

If you are a 10th grader applying for dual enrollment, you must have a qualifying test score (SAT Composite 1200 and ACT Composite 26). IF you are an 11th or 12th grader, UWG and WGTC are no longer requiring admission exams if you have a qualifying GPA (3.0).

If you have accommodations through an IEP or 504 Plan, please visit UWG's Office of Accessibility Services to submit your paperwork.

You must submit your Immunization Record to UWG. Please call UWG Health Services at 678-839-6452 or email immunize@westga.edu so they can pull records from the state database for dual enrollment.

EACH YEAR, you and your parent must complete the online Dual Enrollment Participation Agreement & Funding Application on GAFutures.org.

EACH SEMESTER, you must meet with the dual enrollment coordinator at the college to schedule your classes and make sure with your high school counselor that your courses are correct and that the schedules at both schools will work together.

IT IS IMPERATIVE that you completely read any email that comes from the college. Vital information is communicated involving grades, fees, etc.. via email. Ignoring emails can result in dropped courses, money owed, failed courses, or even termination from the Dual Enrollment program.

The Peer Academic Coaching program provides interactive one-on-one sessions to identify academic concerns and other barriers to success. Students can get help strengthening skills in the following areas:

Time management
Test preparation/Test taking
Note taking
Acclimating to the collegiate life
Reading strategies

During a Peer Academic Coaching session, a student can expect: to discuss academic barriers or college stressors; to develop strategies to use in current and future courses; and to become a more efficient learner by studying smarter, not harder.

The STEM Tutoring Center supports both science and math courses by offering free drop-in tutoring. The STEM tutoring center is staffed by undergraduate students who have made an "A" in science or math courses. The University Writing Center:

APPOINTMENT REQUIRED (Virtual Available)

Call or email to make an appointment at the Writing Center. You will need your NAME, STUDENT ID (917) number, CLASS SECTION NUMBER (Example, ENG 1101-11), and preferred DATE and TIME for appointment.

Appointments are 30 minutes in length. It is best to schedule your session 24-hours before you want to be seen. If you need to cancel your session, let the Center know at least an hour before your appointment begins.

WHAT TO BRING TO THE WRITING CENTER APPOINTMENT:
- A printed copy of your paper is preferred. (Computers are available in the back of the Center if you do not have a printed copy.)
- The directions for the assignment from your professor.
- Any notes you have taken while working on the assignment.
- At least one or two questions or concerns about the assignment that can help direct the session.

Supplemental Instruction leaders guide students through course concepts.

Most core courses have an SI Instructor assigned to the class.SI leaders help students make good use of their time and share the strategies they used to be successful in the course. SI leaders will not re-lecture, give out copies of his or her notes, help students with assigned homework, or encourage last minute test cramming. SI sessions are free! Students are encouraged to come as often as they like, however, the statistics show that the more sessions a student attends, the better their grades are.
