Sailing experience not required! Minimal commitment!
Are you interested in spending time with visually impaired sailors and maybe get out on the water too?
Help with various tasks in helping the sailors and sighted guides prepare to go out on the water. If room allows, also come sailing! By signing up to be an onshore volunteer, you may be asked to take on any three of the following roles. The role you are assigned for each session is dependent on the number of sailors and onshore volunteers signed up for each session. Your role assignment will be announced in the weekly boat pairings email sent out by the SailBlind Director.
1. Point Person: you are the primary point of contact for arriving participants or last minute cancellations. You will also be responsible for managing the virtual credit card to pay for parking (for guide and onshore volunteers), tracking/storing parking receipts, as well as maintaining accurate attendance records for both volunteers and participants. Additionally, you'll assist one-time guests by helping them complete their waiver forms at the CBI guest kiosk.
2. Dockside Dynamo: if any participants are running late, you may stay behind to meet them and guide them to the proper location. You’ll assist sailors with finding and using the bathrooms, lockers, and water bubblers, ensuring they’re comfortable and prepared for their sailing experience. Additionally, you’ll help distribute and fit life jackets properly, ensuring safety and readiness. As sailors navigate the docks, your guidance and support will help them move with confidence and ease, ensuring that everyone is safely and promptly ready for their time on the water.
3. Shoreline Savvy: distribute swag, such as t-shirts, hats, or other branded items, to sailors and other volunteers. You’ll capture the spirit of the day by taking photos of sailors, volunteers, and the program in action.
As few or as many Saturday sessions as you’d like! We will have an advanced sign up sheet that we use and encourage guides to sign up for weekends in advance so we can plan accordingly!
