Reading Connection

Read together for 10 minutes. Choose a short article, poem, or passage from a favorite book. Then ask:

What's the author's message or purpose?
What details stand out the most?
What connections can you make to your own life?

This activity helps strengthen reading comprehension and analysis skills. It's a great opportunity for learners to build confidence and deepen their understanding.

Practice Citing Evidence at Home

When your student shares an opinion about a book, movie, or even something that happened at school, ask a few follow-up questions to help them think deeper:

"Why do you think that?"
"What makes you say so?"
"What's your evidence?"

These simple questions encourage your student to support their ideas with proof, the same skill they use in English class when analyzing texts or writing essays.

ELA in the Library!

This year marks the return of scheduled visits to the library for all English classes. During these visits, students can:

Check out books they're excited to read
Take part in quick brain break activities
Explore their interests and unwind
