CSCISD SAYS Program

What is SAYS?

SAYS (Systems Academy for Young Scientists) is an academic summer program for 4th-5th Grade students that promotes the development of Systems Thinking and problem solving skills. It exposes students to Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) curriculum and careers. It also creates an environment where students are encouraged to learn, explore, achieve and discover.

The classes are divided into three groups:

Systems Thinking, Robotics and LEGO Learning Systems.

  • In the Systems Thinking class, students learn simple systems dynamics and apply the STELLA program in creating visual representations of systems.

  • In the Robotics class, students apply engineering design principles using Lego MindStorms EV3. They also engage in a simulated robotics competition to implement the engineering design principles.

  • In the LEGO Learning Systems class, students learn about scalable learning systems (BricQ and Spike Essentials) based on the familiar LEGO® brick that is intuitive, inclusive, and adaptable.
