Ni neart go cur le chéile
A wonderful day here in CCS where we celebrate all our students from the many different parts of the globe that they hail from. The students produced stands, some with food and music to demonstrate their culture and heritage.
Students shared their stories and their journeys.
Students competed in a whole school quiz with questions based on the countries of the various nationalities of our students. It was a competitive event with Joshua and Grace in Year 3 winning out in the end.
A special thanks must go to Ms. A O' Regan for coordinating this event and to the tireless and continuous work of Ms. G McGrath, Ms. N O' Donovan, Ms L Duggan and Ms T Looney. Well done on a fantastic day.
A huge congratulations are in order for our two very talented second year art students Emma Fenny and Layla O' Mahony who's art works, entitled "Kandersteg 24 Feet" (on the left) and "Darcy" (on the right) have been recognised for originality and exceptional execution. The evocative piece "Kandersteg 24 Feet" is a depiction of an underwater scene and a memory from the artist. The adjudicators commented on her ability to capture the sense of being submerged.
"Darcy" depicts the artist with her dog and the bond and affection shared in the picture was commented upon.
We look forward to following the progess of these artists as they progress onward in the competition. Well done to Ms. A Stackpoole who has given of her time to mentor these students and guide their work.
A group of hardworkng TY students in tandem with their Year Head and several of our Additional Needs Assistants ran a popular bake sale raising €450 for Cork Arc House Cancer Support. While raising awareness and funds for this worthy cause, the school enjoyed the delicious cakes and sense of togetherness. A huge congratulations and thanks to all concerned.
On Thursday night our fourth, fifth, and sixth-year students lit up the stage at CCS Presents: A Night At Broadway with unforgettable flair. Their performances showcased their immense and varied talents. From powerful solos to entertaining group numbers, every act was a joy to watch.Their hard work and dedication brought smiles to every face in the audience.
It was a night of outstanding entertainment—bravo to all involved and thanks to teachers Ms Mullaney, Ms Cooke, Mr McGrath and Ms O'Donovan for their work in helping the students to prepare for the evening.
We wish our sixth year students the very best of luck in their Leaving Certificate Oral Examinations which will take place in school over the Easter holidays. Timetables have been posted on the Year 6 Google Classroom.
We are delighted to welcome back past pupil of CCS Ms Margo Noonan head of the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit at Cork's South Infirmary-Victoria University Hospital to CCS after Easter. Margo will be speaking with the second year class groups on the important topic of relationships and consent. These talks will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday (29th and 30th of April). It would be useful if parents continued these conversations at home. If any parent would prefer their child not to listen to the talk please let the Year Head know. Thank you
Updates of all sporting activities in CCS
We recently held a ceremony in the PE Hall to mark the achievements of our Junior Ladies Footballers, our First Year Girls Basketballers, athletics champion, Giselle Ahern and our U19 Boys Gaelic football team.
With Easter around the corner, the school was full of egg chasers this week, but of the rugby variety!
On Wednesday, the school was visited by Stephen Archer, a stalwart of Munster rugby, and Grainne Finnegan from 'Tackle your feelings', who spoke about the TYF schools programme, Grainne Spoke about how the programme can help young people develop important life skills, including resilience, realise their values, and utilise their support networks, while Stephen spoke about his experiences as a student through to a professional athlete, and the life lessons he learned along the way.
They also presented our senior rugby team with their new jerseys, who are now sponsored by Tackle Your Feelings & Zurich Insurance.
As if one professional rugby player wasn't enough, our junior girls rugby team also had a surprise visit from Maeve Og O'leary, who has represented Munster & Ireland in rugby, joining them for training after school, and giving them a wealth of tips to help them as they start their rugby journey.
Thursday saw the rugby continue, with two u15 teams and our u19 team taking the field. Our u15s took part in the Aidan Ross tournament, with one team reaching the final. Unfortunately they lost out by the narrowest of margins to a well trained Bantry side, but showed great potential for a young team early in their development.
Our u19s faced a strong Blarney SMGS side in the Munster O'Gorman Cup semi final. At the end of a tense 80 minute match, both teams finished neck-a-neck, 38-38. Unfortunately for our CCS men, competition regulations were against them on this occasion, as Blarney had managed to score a single try more, 6 tries to our 5. A tough pill to swallow for the team, but not allowing the disappointment to linger, many of the 6th year students, such as David Curtin, Ben O'Meara, and Oscar O'Suilleabhain encouraged the 3rd, 4th, and 5th year students present to continue the rugby momentum in the school, and keep moving forward, to have the success they wished they could've achieved. No doubt, this current batch of 6th year students have become role models to younger students, not just on the pitch, but how they conduct themselves off it too.
Our triumphant under 15 soccer team marches onwards to a semi-final after a hard fought but comprehensive win against a resilient St Brogans in Ballea. Zach Crowley made the score sheet twice where he joined Cian O'Neill, Dylan O'Driscoll, Jack O'Connor, Josh O'Brien, Charlie McSweeney and Zindine Louadah. The final whistle saw the team through to the semi-final with an 8-1 victory.
The team will face either Presentation College Cork or the North Monastery in the semi-final, a game that will again be played away. We wish them every success. A huge thanks to he coaching staff; Mr. T Crowley and Ms. E Kerins.
Congratulations to our u16 boys hurling team who beat De La Salle, Macroom in their Cork Colleges final at Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Tuesday 8th April. After coming out of a titanic battle in the semi-final with Buttevant, a game that went to extra time, the lads were determined to finish the campaign with silverware and they produced a great second half performance to win the day. Well done to all the players involved and a special word of thanks to Mr D McCarthy and Mr A Sheehan for their the time and effort they have put in with the team all year.
