Ni neart go cur le chéile
On Thursday 13th March last, this year's CCS Masterchef competitors took part in a confectionary workshop at the Culinary Arts department, MTU. This is the third year that CCS students have had the opportunity to experience the cutting-edge facilities enjoyed by students on campus.
Ms Catherine O'Mahony, Tourism and Hospitality Department, kindly brought our students on a tour which included a view of the new textiles lab.
Under the tutelage of a team of senior culinary arts and home economics students, some of whom were past pupils of CCS, students added sausage rolls, chocolate florentines, apple curd puff pastries and chocolate truffles to their culinary repertoire.
Good quality coffee at affordable prices, a great atmosphere with friendly chat and delicious homemade snacks are what you can now expect at a visit to our new "Coffee Dock". Although not officially launched (grand opening on May 2nd) our students have been sampling the wares lovingly prepared by a select group of students under the watchful eye of Centre Coordinator, Ms Faherty and TY Coordinator Ms. O' Donovan. This writer imbibed a cuppa yesterday and was astounded at the quality and taste.
It is a wonderful opportunity for students to enjoy and experience the setting up and running of a business, one that is proving popular amongst staff and student alike.
A massive thank you to our sponsors who have continued to make this a viable entity and to our past pupils Gary, Niamh and the team at Three Fools Coffee, who have guided the project throughout.
Carrigaline Community School had the privilege of attending the Belong To LGBTQ+ Quality Mark Awards in the Royal Marine Hotel Dun Laoghaire on Friday 14th March. At this event CCS proudly stood as allies in the celebration of diversity, inclusion and equality.
The event highlighted the remarkable achievements and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community, inspiring all who attended to continue advocating for acceptance and understanding.
This experience has further strengthened our school's commitment to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone, regardless of their identity. The Quality Mark award highlights the incredible efforts CCS goes to in creating a supportive and inclusive environment from all our students. Special thanks to teachers Ms A. Stackpoole, Mr. T. Crowley and Ms. D. O’Connor in all their efforts put toward obtaining this award.
Well done to the 18 students that participated in the Valentine's Day Baking Competition 2025. The students are extremely talented and the judges had a really challening job to decide on the winners. In first place we had Nada and Zena with their Chocolate and Pistachio Cake, and in second place we had Riona and Aralee with their Biscoff Cake. All participants recieved a certificate and a small gift. It was great to see the students take such pride in their work. Thanks also to Ms Bailey for organising the competition.
Huge thank you to Ms Faherty for facilitating a "Study Skills" workshop with all of our second year classes. Students were shown various techniques for helping them to study. All students were given a study folder with a revision timetable and progress sheet. Students are encouraged to use this folder and techniques in preparation for the Summer Assessments.
Updates of all sporting activities in CCS
TYs visited the Mardyke Arena to participate in "Wheelchair basketball for all" an event run annually to promote inclusion in and awareness around sport for all. The day was action packed. The students reached the semi-finals and represented the school with dignity and a very positive attitude.
Thanks must go to Ms O' Donovan for providing this opportunity and for the partipating teachers who gave so generously of their time; Mr. L Moore and Mr. D McCarthy. Well done to all.
Team Captain Josh Carolan, receiving the Munster GAA PPS TUS Corn Sheain Ui Mhaolomhaigh.
On the 22nd February all roads led to Heywood Community College in Co Laois where our Senior Boys Football team played Bailieborough Community School in the All Ireland Semi Final having won the Munster Final the previous week against Scoil Pol Kilfinane.
The All Ireland Semi-Final did not go our way, however we fought hard from the first whistle to the last, refusing to give in. The determination and spirit of the team never faded. Although the final whistle confirmed defeat the team can be extremely proud of their achievements.
Thanks also to the many students, parents and teachers that travelled to the Laois to support the team.
Finally massive thanks to Mr O'Sullivan and Mr O'Donovan for their work and dedication in training and supporting the team.
Here in CCS we are extremely proud of this achievement.
Currently we are preparing for the upcoming quarter final against St Brogan's of Bandon. We play them here in CCS. The team have progressed through many previous rounds to get here and are up for a tough match. Stand-out players this year are Cian O' Neill and Daniel O' Herlihy. But the team itself has been outstanding and a credit to the school and to their families.
A huge dept of thanks is owed to Mr. Moore, Mr. Crowley and Mr. Corbett.
Our 1st year ladies progressed all the way to the South A Basketball final in Neptune Stadium and although pipped at the post by a dynamic Colaiste Pobail, Bantry, they demonstrated incredible skills and determination throughout the entire competition. They progressed through several rounds, winning a quarter and semi final. Commiserations on losing a hard fought final, but the future is definitely bright considering the journey these 1st Years are only embarking upon.
A special thank you to the teachers concerned: Ms. D Keohane, Ms. T. Looney and Ms. N. O' Donovan.
