Our sixth year Biology students had a fantastic trip to Fota Wildlife Park for their field work study. The staff in Fota were extremely complementary of our students and found them to be highly engaged and interested. Thanks to the staff that travelled with the group Mr Corbett, Ms Carroll, Mr O Donovan and Ms Higgins
We kindly ask you to regularly check your child's journal to monitor the number of times they are leaving class to use the toilet (journal pages 33-35). Please note that students are not permitted to use the toilets between classes. Outside of break and lunch times, students must seek permission from their teacher to use the facilities. Any student found in the toilets without proper permission will be placed on Thursday detention. If your child requires additional access to the toilet, due to a medical condition, please inform the Year Head and they will put a note in the journal. Your cooperation in reinforcing these guidelines is greatly appreciated.
Where a student is placed on detention the following steps are taken: The Year Head informs the student, places the student on detention and reminds the student at assembly. The school sends a text to the phone number supplied on VSware to inform the family of the detention; the time and the place. The Wednesday detention takes place from 1:15 to 2:15 in the library generally, while the Thursday detention takes place from 1:10 to 1:40. Students are asked to have homework or study ready for that hour. Teachers volunteer to monitor and to insure that there is an atmosphere condusive to study. We would ask all parents to please cooperate with detention by reminding their son or daughter that they are on detention (on receipt of the text) and to further reiterate the importance of having work for them to do for the hour and the importance of cooperating with the supervising teacher.
In the event that a student misses detention for a medical appointment or some other pre-engagement, the home should make contact with the relevant Year Head in advance. The detention can then be rescheduled for the following week. Your help with this is hugely appreciated by the whole school community.
The Senior Cycle Art students had their annual Art trip to Cork city on Friday. Students had a guided tour of the Crawford Art Gallery, before it closes for restoration. This was followed by a tour of some of the Ardu city Murals. Well done to organisers Ms. Stackpoole and Ms. Johnston.
Open Day will take place on Thursday 26th September. The local primary schools will visit the school from 10.40. The admissions forms are now available on the school website
The evening session will run from 18.00-20.00 and we are very thankful to the many students that have volunteerred to showcase the school during the day and evening sessions.
Reminder to parents/guardians that current students are not permitted to attend the open day/evening unless they have a specific role/job such as tour guide or helping out for a specific subject.
School will close at 10.05 on Thursday to facilitate the visits from the primary schools.
On Wednesday the 18th of September we held our Annual First Year Bonding Day. It was an opportunity for our newest members of the community to get to know each other and the teachers outside of the classroom. Students wore their own clothes for the day and competed in a number of planned events, both sporting and classroom based. It was a lot of fun and we had a tired but very happy Year Group by the end of the day. A huge thank you needs to go to the Transition Year and LCA coordinator Ms. O' Donovan who seamlessly organised and managed the day. So too, to all the teachers and ANA's involved who insured that the day ran smoothly and the Year Heading Team who supported and helped all day!
Well done to the transition year students that took part in the Introduction to Coaching Gaelic Games course last week. Thank you to Mick Daly for facilitating this course.
Thank you to Matthew and the team at Inspire Education for facilitating workshops with our sixth year students, setting them up for the year ahead. The students really enagaged with the sessions. Thank you to Mr Ryan for organising it.
Please note that as per the school calendar there is no school on this Friday 27th September.
While schools in Ireland receive a certain level of funding from government annually it falls short of what is required to run all aspects of school life to the level required. Schools, like Carrigaline Community School, require additional funding through registration / school activity fees from parents / guardians to ensure that the students receive an appropriate level of broad education.
We thank those of you for your registration / student activity fees which go a distance to helping the school provide a quality service for all students. Currently 30% of the student population have sent in the registration / student fee. We would encourage as many families as possible to pay this fee as soon as possible. There is currently a shortfall in this fee amounting to approximately €90000
This student activity fee contributes towards:
Reducing costs of the school’s extra-curricular activities programme (for example bus hire, admission tickets, etc)
The cost of house examinations for the coming school year (excluding pre-state examinations)
Affiliation and entry fees for clubs and societies
Individual pupil insurance
Access to WSWare

The Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post-Primary Schools (revised 2023) require that the school’s Board of Management must undertake a review of our Child Safeguarding Statement, and a checklist is provided for this purpose.
The review must be completed every year or as soon as practicable after there has been a material change in any matter to which the Child Safeguarding Statement refers. Undertaking the annual review also ensures that the school meets its statutory obligation under section 11(8) of the Children First Act 2015, to review its Child Safeguarding Statement every two years.
Please click on the link below to view the checklist. This checklist will be completed and presented to our BOM at its next meeting on Tuesday October 15th.
The schedule of activities (matches/speakers/assessments/outings etc) is available on the school website for parents/guardians to view. This is updated each week.
