Student Radiographers tell why they have chosen this job

Louise:

After graduating, I knew I wanted to go into the medical field. I didn't want to be a nurse and I didn't want to take the medical exam either. And I discovered the profession of radiographer.

I am now in my third year of study and I enjoy what I do. I like this job because we are both technicians and caregivers.

I really enjoy being close to patients in order to take care of them and build a relationship of trust. That's why I would like to work in radiotherapy when I leave school.

Hello, I'm Justine

After obtaining my certificate of nursing assistant, I decided to continue studying and become a radiographer.

I like this job, both the nursing side and the technical side.

I find that the medical imaging pass is an important step in the patient care.

They come expecting to leave with a result and a treatment for their pathology.

We have an important position for the patients.

I like the technical side of our job.

We use different modalities such as X-rays, CT, MRI, particle accelerators, PET scans, and gamma cameras.

The variety of these modalities makes our job both complex and very rewarding.

Hello, my name is Yoan EPITO, I am 20 years old. I am a student in medical imaging as a radiographer. After my scientific baccalaureate, I started my 3-year studies in Rodez. What I appreciate in my job is the relationship with the patient. The relationship that is created during the treatment is different for each patient.

Each patient has his or her own personality and therefore the relationship that is created is unique. Secondly, I find that the image acquisition is of very good quality and constantly evolving. In addition, there is an exchange with the doctor who brings knowledge about the human body.

I didn't know this profession at first, I knew it through my family. This profession is not known to the general public. I find it very interesting because it is varied.

What I like about the care I provide to patients is that this examination will allow for better management of their subsequent medical course. There is a link that is created because we are actors in the patient's journey.

Elise C

My name is Elise and I wanted to become a radiographer because I love the relationship with the patient and this profession is very interesting because there are a lot of different exams. The technique is not the same for these exams and the preparation of patients is diversified according to the exams.

Also, in this profession, it's possible to work in different departments. In fact, we can work in radiodiagnostic, in radiotherapy and in nuclear medicine. That is very interesting and enriching.

In addition, the training is very attractive because there are a lot of skills to master and understand.

Julie

I'm a student radiographer at Carnus school.

I chose this profession because I’m attracted by the relationship with patients and different professionals. Then I like the technical side and care of the job.

This job allows you to practice different disciplines. The areas of work are MRI, nuclear medicine, x-ray, scan, interventional vascular... During the three years of training we learn a lot of things like human anatomy, technical acts in care, for example putting in place catheters, preparing infusions...

I like to take time with patients, communicate with them, reassure them before performing an imaging exam.

Ana-Galina

I’m a radiographer student in the school of Rodez in France.

During my childhood, I've always wanted to work as a health professional, then after years of reflection I discovered the job of radiographer. I was attracted by the radiographies me and my family had undergone during our lives.

During our training, which has been taking place for 3 years, we have had many clinical practices in several fields of this job like radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, MRI, scanner etc…

This occupation is really interesting and so diversified. We take care of many different patients, have learned many cares like putting catheters, making dressing, and injection products like iodine or nuclear products.

We have made imaging of the whole human body to help radiologists to find the pathology or diseases that the patient has.

I really like the relationship with the patient, seeing them smile, helping them and reassuring them.

This occupation is very important and essential for the healthcare system and I like to contribute to helping people in need.

Océane

Hello, my name is Océane and I'm a student radiographer at Carnus school in Rodez.

I discovered the profession of radiographer through my mum’s friend. The hospital had its open-day, so I went to visit. I found the profession interesting so I did some research. Before entering the radiographer school, I carried out two observation clinical practices and that confirmed my desire to be a radiographer. I love the relationship with the patient, the capacity to help, reassure and discuss… The profession of a radiographer has many specialties and it’s good, we never get bored.

Lucie

My name is Lucie and I am a student radiographer in Rodez.

I chose this profession because I wanted to feel useful towards others. And for me it could be done through the care of patients. I also was hoping to learn to be helpful during emergency situations. When I did my research about the training, I discovered that all along the three years I would learn various pathologies which was fascinating.

My clinical practices allowed me to join the medical department. Now, I like a lot being in contact with the patients in providing medical care for them. These experiences make me feel well integrated in a medical team which allows me to learn many things. There is also an important part of the profession that I like a lot which consists in the assistance of doctors during interventions.

In this profession, you take part in the global care of the patient. Thanks to your images the doctors can find the diseases which concern the patient and make them feel bad. This part of the profession is very rewarding. You can also see the evolution of the patients along their convalescent stage (fractures, cancers…) which is fascinating.

Amélie L

I chose this profession thanks to my high school guidance counselor who made me discover this profession.

What I like about this profession is the contact with patients and the technological aspect of the profession. What I find fascinating is that with different imaging techniques we can detect different pathologies.

I like the relationship with patients because I feel useful to them, I know that thanks to the images I will make, I will be able to help them continue their treatments. In addition, most patients adopt very rewarding behaviours.

Elise B

My name is Elise and I am a student radiographer in Rodez. I chose the profession of radiographer because I like taking care of patients and new technologies. I find the profession very interesting and multifaceted. The clinical practices confirmed my idea of the profession of a radiographer. A radiographer needs to have a good relationship with patients, he has to be attentive and to reassure patients. In the profession, there are different departments where we work such as radiology, MRI, scanner, nuclear medicine or radiotherapy.

Lucie.C

My name is Lucie and I'm a 3rd year student radiographer. I chose this profession because I'm very interested in radioanatomy and the relationship with the patient. During my training, my different clinical practices have confirmed my desire and my will to be a radiographer. All along this training, there are a lot of clinical practices in different departments: radiology, CT scan, MRI, nuclear medicine, radiotherapy, …

What I like most about this profession is the mixture between nursing and the technology of the tools we use. Moreover, I love discovering new pathologies, I find it very enriching.

Finally, thanks to this profession, I was able to improve my shyness and today, it is easier for me to talk to people than before.

Océane

My name is Océane and I'm 20 years old

I’m a radiographer student in France

I chose this training because I wanted to be close to the people but also work in healthcare.

In the school there are many specialties and the lessons give the foundation of a job as a radiographer. The clinical practices allow us to discover the job in its reality.

By being a radiographer we will be able at the end of the 3 years of studies to work in different fields such as in radiography, CT scan, MRI, nuclear medicine and radiotherapy.

In addition, there are always technologies that evolve over time.

We don't get bored !

There is sometimes complicated care for which it is necessary to put your emotions aside to achieve the exam.

My name is Mattéo Gaches, I'm a student radiographer

I chose this training because I am very interested in the contact with patients. During my training, I was very interested in the courses on the technological aspects of the different machines, anatomy and learning a lot about pathologies. This job allows me to develop my relationship with the patient, to learn the different modalities (radiology, CT-scan, MRI, nuclear medicine, radiotherapy, vascular service...).

The fact that it is a sandwich course is very interesting because it allows us to validate the knowledge we have learned in class. We have a very close relationship with the patient because we are constantly with this person, especially in radiotherapy.

Hugo

I'm Hugo, I'm 21 years old, I’m a student radiographer in my last year.

I chose this job because I liked the relationship with the patients and also for the technical side with the different machines which are often cutting-edge technologies. In order to choose my future profession, I did a 3-day internship in a medical imaging department in a hospital.

Apart from the relationship with the patients, I like the diversity that this job offers with radiography, scanner, MRI, radiotherapy ...

In the care given to the patients I like to be able to discuss with them (reassure them, explain the examination to them) and to be useful in the diagnosis or treatment of their disease. Moreover, each patient is different.

Hello my name is Paul, I'm 20 years old.

I discovered this profession thanks to my cousin who is a radiographer and so I did some training courses to discover the profession and I liked it immediately. I've always liked the relationship with the patient and I've always wanted a job related to that. I also liked this job because it is very varied.

I like all the possible areas in this profession but I still prefer radiotherapy because I love the relationship with the patient in radiotherapy.

I have always liked "taking care" and the relationship with the patient and I have always wanted to help people through my profession.
