Our small group or one on one high-dosage virtual tutoring program is grounded in research. The February 2021 article “Accelerating Student Learning With High-dosage Tutoring” published by EdResearch for Recovery (Annenberg Institute at Brown University & University of Virginia) details ten design principles for effective tutoring. The Carnegie Learning Virtual Tutoring program is modeled on these principles with particular emphasis on:
● high doses, taught by talented, certified math and literacy teachers
● consistent tutors over time who facilitate positive tutor-student relationships
● informal assessments that empower tutors to tailor instruction to meet students needs
● training and ongoing support of tutors, which is the responsibility of Carnegie Learning
● tutors who know Palm Springs Unified School District’s scope & sequence, which allows them to reinforce and support teachers’ classroom instruction
Throughout our High Dosage Tutoring program, students will participate in engaging learning activities designed to reinforce academic standards while preparing, supporting, and extending their classroom learning. During these sessions, our tutors follow a carefully designed syllabus and are focused on identifying and closing skill gaps, accelerating learning, and fostering academic confidence. Our program is research-based, and years of research shows that students who consistently attend tutoring sessions with the same tutor experience the most gains in their overall performance and confidence.
Our virtual tutoring program is open to all students in PSUSD in grades TK-12.
High school math courses offered include Integrated Math 1, Integrated Math 2, and Integrated Math 3.
A Cohort is a group of students joining our program with the same start and end date. Most Cohorts are 10-weeks long and act as a mini-course with a consistent schedule and tutor to foster tutor-student relationships and maximize the results of our program.
This year, we are introducing Series for students who maintain excellent attendance for their tutoring sessions. Each Series contains Cohorts which begin and end back-to-back, allowing students to continue their tutoring sessions throughout the school year without an overlap or break in tutoring services.
Towards the end of each Cohort, students who maintain 80% attendance or higher will receive a personal invitation to begin the next Cohort in the Series with the option of remaining with the same tutor and keeping their same schedule!
You can find information about tutoring Series on the Year at a Glance Calendar found HERE.
Students can participate in no more than 2 cohorts at the same time, one for Math and one for Language Arts. Please see the table below for important Cohort start and end dates as well as registration windows. You can find registration information HERE.
Because after school schedules can change often and Cohorts are scheduled for a 10-week period, we require a new registration for each Cohort your child attends. However, this year we are excited to introduce "Series" for students who maintain excellent attendance!
Towards the end of each Cohort, students who maintain 80% attendance or higher will receive a personal invitation to begin the next Cohort in the Series with the option of remaining with the same tutor and keeping their same schedule!
You can find all session information in your child’s Carnegie Learning tutoring account in Clever. Inside your account, you can view your upcoming sessions on a calendar or list view. You can find information on logging into the Carnegie Learning Tutoring App HERE.
You will also receive daily tutoring session reminders via email and text, sent to the email address and phone number with which you registered your child for tutoring.
You can request changes to your schedule HERE.
📌 Please note, students can request one session change per cohort and we cannot guarantee that your child will remain with the same tutor. We understand that afterschool schedules can change; however, our program is designed for consistency - both with tutor-student relationships as well as attendance on the days and times for which you registered.
Our small group or one on one high-dosage tutoring program is designed to help close gaps and boost confidence and tutors adhere to a carefully designed syllabus which aligns with your district's scope and sequence, covering skills students typically struggle with the most.
At Carnegie Learning, we meet students where they are and accelerate their learning. Our research affirms that students are capable of on-grade-level work with the right support. Our small group or one on one, high-dosage tutoring program is designed for acceleration of learning rather than remediation, and research-based tutoring, in a typical school year, can play a key role in closing gaps in student learning and accelerating student growth by up to 15 months.
If your child has an IEP which indicates the need for lower grade-level content to be covered, please provide a copy of your IEP (this option is available during the registration process) so we can make the necessary adjustments.
Due to ratio requirements, your child may not attend their tutoring sessions during an afterschool program. Additionally, tutoring should be taking place in a location with minimal distractions, and afterschool programs are often quite busy.
