Welcome to the Grade 3 Cultural Carnival Website! I'm excited to share with you the amazing work that grade 3 students have been doing during our Unit of Inquiry, How We Express Ourselves, about culture.
Cultural Carnival is the result of a transdisciplinary approach to learning that integrates our unit of inquiry, arts, and literacy. By exploring different cultures, grade 3 students have not only gained a deeper understanding and appreciation of other cultures but also developed their creativity, critical thinking, presentation, and communication skills.
Working in groups of three, students have conducted thorough research across 10 categories. Then, they narrowed their focus to six key areas: history, art, celebrations, clothing, architecture, and cuisine. This selection will allow them to present a well-rounded cultural experience. In addition to the research, students have various tangible items and have also created artwork inspired by their respective cultures, enhancing the audience's immersion and appreciation for the diverse cultural backgrounds represented. I believe this carnival will not only enrich our students' understanding but also foster a greater appreciation for the rich tapestry of cultures that we are fortunate to have within our world.
As part of their literacy curriculum, students have also been learning about poetry. For their summative, students created an original poem in any taught style (Haiku, Cinquain, Diamante, Limerick, Acrostic, Shape) about a culture of their choice. This is an alternative and creative way of demonstrating and communicating their learning.
I hope this website will give you a glimpse into the immersive experience of the exciting things behind the scenes in our classroom. Thank you for visiting!
