Thank you for your interest in AOE’s Science Fair! Participation in a Science Fair stimulates a student’s interest in scientific investigation beyond what is taught in the classroom. Through research, experimentation, visual exhibits, and presentations, the Science Fair offers students a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills. Although every student at AOE has the opportunity to participate in the Science Fair, participation in this event is voluntary.
The Science Fair is open to all students currently enrolled at AOE. Students will be given the opportunity to present their work to science & engineer volunteers. The panel of expert judge(s) will then select three (3) projects per grade level to be recognized for exceptional work. Criteria that will be judged include: originality and quality of design, understanding and use of the scientific method or engineering design process, and the student’s ability to present their work (demonstration and collection presentations, which are typically done by children in lower grades, will be similarly be judged on planning, design, and presentation).
While it can be tempting for parents to become deeply involved in their child’s project, this is strongly discouraged. Learning and growth are maximized when students perform their own work. A minimal amount of parental guidance can be helpful, but the student should always be in charge and performing the work.
To participate in the Science Fair, all projects must be pre-approved by submitting an application. Project applications are online at www.AOEPTA.org with the Science Fair Page under the Events tab.
ALL science projects are to be taken home at the end of the evening ceremony or the end of the school day, Friday Jan 15, 2026.
