A fire drill takes place at least 3 times in a school year. The procedures are as follows. Please make sure that all of the following are understood and in place at the beginning of the school year.
Every classroom has a map for evacuating. There is ONE route that is marked. The map should be stuck to the left hand side of the door of the classroom. If it isn’t, it is your responsibility to inform the office.
On hearing the fire alarm, teachers must take control of their class until reaching the designated fire assembly area. No stopping unless absolutely necessary. Any children not in class must go straight to the fire assembly point and not via their classroom. The same procedure takes place for children in support.
There are a number of Fire Assembly Points. Your assembly point is marked clearly on your map.
Teachers should have their phone with them and must take a roll call once outside.
The Sign-in App will be used to ensure that all staff and visitors are accounted for. Siobhán will be responsibile for the app.
A fire drill must be treated as a real situation so classes must react in this manner.
The following staff should pass through designated areas during evacuation on their specific route:
Upstairs toilets: SNA on top floor
Downstairs toilets: Siobhán
Support Classrooms: Support Teachers
Fire drills will be carried out on a need to know basis. All classes / teachers are unaware of the event to plan and learn to be prepared for an actual fire.
Where do we go if our route is blocked?
Go to the nearest safe exit.
Where do we go if the site is unsafe?
Everyone should leave through the front gates and turn right. We will assemble at the gates of the sugar factory about 500m up the road.
Does it call fire brigade or do we need to call?
We have a service with Netwatch, which is linked to the fire panel. If the fire alarm goes off, Netwatch contact the fire station unless we call. If fire alarm goes off incorrectly, the number to ring is: 1800-180000
