my goal is to empower clients of all ages by taking a compassionate, creative, and highly personalized approach to therapy.
I have 5+ years of experience treating diverse mental health conditions by integrating traditional talk therapy techniques with my specialization in expressive arts and dance/body movement. I have previous experience working in partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, community-based, in-home and outpatient therapeutic settings.
I received my BA in Cultural Anthropology from Vassar College and my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lesley University. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Massachusetts and Rhode Island (soon to be New York) and a dance/movement therapist. I have also completed her beginning year of training in Somatic Experiencing (SE).
my philosophy
I encourage clients to pay attention to their bodies. The body has so much to say beyond what can be verbalized.
People are shaped by their own decisions as well as their situations, environments, and histories, but they have the ability to reframe their perspective toward those things and thus change the way they are influenced by them.
A therapist is not a fixer, but a “fellow traveler.” You are in the driver's seat while I am sitting in the back, pointing things out along the way.
Culture influences subjective experience, and thus needs to be at the forefront of structuring the therapeutic encounter.
Sometimes the most profound work and expression of compassion happens when one simply listens and holds space for another.
Play is important at any age.
