Research shows that parent involvement in a school improves student achievement. What better reason to get involved in your Cub's school? Carleston offers a variety of volunteer opportunites for parents who work in and outside their home, and those with small children. Our goal is to give parents every opportunity to get involved at Carleston, and we hope that you will take advantage of one or more of the opportunities listed below.
Arts in Education: Committee previews and selects acts and performances for special school functions
Healthy Lifestyles: Committee provides Health & Safety literature to students (ex. drug prevention, fire safety, etc.) as well as working with the school counselor coordinating Red Ribbon Week.
Memberships: Committee works to register new PTA members and coordinates different events for recruiting more members.
Copy Cats: Committee copies and laminates paperwork for teachers as needed during the school year.
Spirit Wear: Committee organizes, sells and distributes Carleston school shirts.
Hospitality: Committee assists in planning and coordinating snacks for monthly faculty meetings. Assist in soliciting donations from parents. Assist in planning and coordinating teacher appreciation events such as Luncheons, 12 Days of Christmas and Teacher Appreciation Week. Assist in soliciting donations from parents when applicable.
Fundraising/Sponsorship: Committee organizes and implements fundraising activities to earn money for special purchases for the school.
VIPS (Volunteers in Public Schools): Committee works closely with other committees to determine when extra help is needed and assists office staff and teachers when needed. Will also assist on creating online sign-ups, work with school volunteer groups in training.
Watch D.O.G.S: Committee members perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day at Carleston (e.g. ; assisting with morning arrivals, monitoring the cafeteria, and helping in classrooms). Be one of our awesome dads and be an example to your child, our school, and community. You don't have to be a dad to be a Watch D.O.G.S. We welcome any father figure.
Yearbook: Committee takes pictures of students and staff during all school functions and events. Assists in yearbook publication, sales and end-of-the-year distribution.
Spanish Liaisons: Committee ensures our Spanish speaking families are represented. Makes sure PTA events and meetings are welcoming to parents and families that speak Spanish. Help them know where and how they can volunteer.
Spirit Sticks: Committee sells Spirit Monkey sticks on campus and at events as allowed.
Family Engagement: Committee coordinates PTA support for our school Family Nights (i.e. Math Nights, Literacy Nights, Art Nights, Trick or Treat Trail etc.)
Retail Support/ Spirit Nights: Committee helps promote school spirit and encourage parent involvement through events at/with local businesses throughout the school year (Spirit Nights).
