We interviewed a Grandparent who came to Carcroft School as a child when she was seven years old. It was fascinating to hear how the school had changed. Mrs Brentnall explained that the boys and girls attended school but in different sections as the weren't allowed to mix. She also explained that the headteacher gave her the cane across her hands for being late to school. Even though she had to come all the way from Skellow on foot as they weren't lucky enough to own a car to travel to school. She also explained that they didn't have delicious food at school like we do now and the milk was kept in a glass bottle on top of the radiators to thaw out. To this day, she can't drink milk as it reminds her of the awful taste!
Even though Mrs Brentnall had a wonderful time at school she explained how it was very different to our education now. She didn't have all the wonderful experiences such as expeditionary learning, hook weeks and and field visit.
We have used historical language to define periods of time from different decades and periods of time.
During our lifetime we explored the changes we have experienced, for example the transition to the XP Trust. How this developed our crew and curriculum. We have loved collaborating to reflect on our year and the impact the curriculum offered, has had.
