“sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” (UN World Commission on Environment and Development)

forestatıon

Forests are vital to life on Earth. They purify the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, prevent erosion, and act as an important buffer against climate change. Forests offer a home to much of the world’s diverse array of plants and animals and provide essential natural resources from timber and food to medicinal plants. Forests also support the lives of local communities and help them to thrive.

Deforestation refers to the decrease in forest areas across the world that are lost for other uses such as agricultural croplands, urbanization, or mining activities. Greatly accelerated by human activities since 1960, deforestation has been negatively affecting natural ecosystems, biodiversity, and the climate.

Forests are a symbol of the country's recognisability and a reflection of its attitude towards sustainable development. Forest ecosystems significantly contribute to the protection of soil, waters and climate; they are home to numerous plant and animal species and a place for the relaxation and recreation of people. Forests are also an important economic factor, providing energy and many green jobs.

We are happy that Slovenia is among the most forested countries in Europe. About 1.2 million ha of forests, i.e. 0.6 ha per citizen, cover 58.2% of Slovenia's surface.

SMART CITIES and GREEN URBAN LIFE

Here are the steps of designing Smart City:

SMART CITITES

A smart city is a technological modern area where there is lots of urban place. Also it aims to improve human life quality as well as sustainability.

Building and designing smart cities is an important goal for every country.

1-PUBLIC GREEN SPACES

Green places are important for human health and overall worlds future. Public green space helps high-density cities feel less crowded and more comfortable. A true smart city should have lots of green public places.

2-Renewable energy sources

Renewable energy sources are infinitive and not harmfull for environment. So we should prefer them against to un-renewable sources like oil, coal and nuclear energy. Best thing to use in a smart city is renewable energy sources.

3-PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

Public transportation should be used for the most in a smart city. Also transportation veichles should be eco-friendly so they must not use oil or gas. Personal cars should be used only in emergency situations.

GREEN ECONOMY

Green Economy is an economy which aims at reducing environmental risks and ecological lacks.

Green economists want to have development that is sustainable and that does not do any harm to the environment.

They want to do this by:

1) Reducing the amount of resources needed to produce things. We think it can be done for example avoiding transportation.

2) Reducing the amount of pollution which is made during the process of production.

If this were possible, the benefits would be huge. Environment would be leaner, including water, air and soil. Thanks to this many species of animals and plants would have a chance to survive and we would keep biodiversity.

The three main areas for the work on Green Economy are according to UNEP:

,,1) Proclamation about macro economic approach to sustainable economic growth through regional, sub-regional and national fora.

2) Demonstration of Green Economy approaches with a central focus on access to green finance, technology and investments

3) Support all countries in terms of development and mainstreaming of macro-economic policies to develop green economy in them.''

(The three points are from UNEP about Green Economy)

Thanks to the green economy, the whole process has a chance to be ecological, starting with production and ending with consumption.

Goals of the green economy are to

1) save ecosystems

2) use resources in a responsible way that doesn't harm the environment.

3) reduce inequality

4) get rid of unfair treatment if workers, especially in developing countries. We think this may be through Fair Trade, for example.
