Symptoms of Coronavirus
The most important symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of any of the following:
a new continuous cough
a high temperature
a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)
For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness. Further information here. If you have coronavirus symptoms at home you MUST NOT come to school but you must book a test immediately.
It is important to understand that a negative LFT only means you are not very infectious NOT that you definitely do not have the virus. You MUST continue to stick to all social distancing rules even with a negative test.
When a student develops symptoms compatible with coronavirus, they will be sent home and advised to self-isolate for 10 days. This will be done by the welfare team wearing PPE (see PPE & medical incidents section). Parents must collect the student and must book a test immediately. The whole household must self-isolate until the results are back. The parent must call Ms Heyes with the results as soon as they are in.
If the test is positive:
Ms Heyes/YTL will elicit the names of close contacts.
Close contacts will be called to the QSB theatre for a LFT every day for 7 days.
Ms Heyes will tell all members of the student with a positive test household to self-isolate for 10 days.
NB the other household members of the contacts do not need to self-isolate unless the child, young person or staff member they live with in that group subsequently develops symptoms.
If the test is negative the student may return to school.
When a student tests positive, they should be sent home and advised to self-isolate until they have the result of a PCR test. This will be done by the welfare team wearing PPE (see PPE & medical incidents section). Parents must collect the student and must book a test immediately. The whole household must self-isolate until the results are back. The parent must call HHE with the results as soon as they are in.
If the test is positive:
Close contacts will be told to self isolate for 10 days.
Ms Heyes will tell all members of the household of the student with a positive test to self-isolate for 10 days.
If the test is negative the student may return to school.
When students are self-isolating they will be asked to complete the work provided by the Oak Academy plus all work set on google classroom. If the whole year group or class are self-isolating then lessons will be taught online using google classroom.
The past few months have been challenging times for all of us. At Capital City Academy, your wellbeing and safety is our priority.
Counselling is available to all of our students. Please contact Ms Rowthorn, Ms O'Brien or your YTL if you feel that you would benefit from some additional support.
Keeping our school clean will be very important for everyone's health and well being.
You can all help us by using the recycling and waste bins appropriately.
You can also help us by NOT chewing gum at any time while in the school building and grounds. This will help minimise the spread of germs. An APS referral will be given to anyone chewing gum.
Our cleaning company, KGB Cleaning South West, have been trained to respond to the new cleaning requirements in schools and will clean every evening after students have finished for the day.
Please leave the classrooms in a neat and tidy condition after your teaching finishes. You will be asked to wipe down your table and chair at the end of each lesson and make sure any rubbish is in the bin.
Please ensure you leave the school promptly at the end of your lessons so our cleaning staff can start their work as soon as possible to make the school ready for the next day.
Please note that each room will be stocked with wipes for cleaning surfaces at the end of lessons/ the day. Hand sanitiser stations will be located in the front atrium, student entrance and canteen areas for daily use.
The cleaning company have undertaken risk assessments and reviewed their method statements in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.
check google to do list every day
complete homework on time and submit via google classroom if possible
You will be given a detention if you fail to submit your homework and a detention added to the system. Your learning needs to be your priority - it is ours and we will be working hard to ensure all students make progress whether in school or at home.
Welfare
If you feel unwell during a lesson, tell your teacher immediately and they will press the call-out button. A member of staff on duty will then escort you to the welfare room.
Please remember that if you have any symptoms of the Coronavirus that you do NOT attend school.
Masks
Face masks are required to be worn by students inside the building and must be plain black or blue. Masks are not needed whilst eating in the canteen or outside except after line ups in preparation for entering the building.
All students should adhere to government guidance on social distancing AT ALL TIMES. A 2m distance should be maintained from ALL STAFF. This is especially important for staff wearing red lanyards.
Everyone in school should follow the usual one-way system and walk on the right hand side of corridors at all times. On the ground floor this should be along the GREY line and within the BLUE lines. Everyone should walk in single file.
On stairs everyone should walk on the right and close to the banister to maintain distance from anyone walking in the opposite direction.
Students should not make contact with each other in corridors.
You will be directed by your teacher on entering a classroom. You may be sitting next to other students, however all students will face forwards wherever this is possible. There will be seating plans on the walls of every classroom. You must sit at the desk allocated to you on the seating plan.
All students should be aware of their surroundings and making sure that you are keeping socially distanced at all times, including at lunch times. Teachers and other staff may remind you to help support this, and it is important that you follow all instructions.
You will not be able to interact with students in other year groups to help maintain 'bubbles' and reduce any risk.
Student movement around the academy will be minimised. ALL students must follow the transitions document to ensure they take the correct route during every transition to avoid contact with other "bubbles". Any student outside of lesson MUST have a planner with the staff permission note and signature. Time out cards will still be used but students can only stand outside the classroom they are currently being taught in.
There are a number of large sanitiser stations which you must use as you enter the building or when walking past.
To reduce the opportunity for students mixing, it is important to ensure that toilets do not become crowded by limiting the number of students who use the toilet facilities at one time. Only one student at a time will be permitted to leave a classroom to go to the toilet. Toilets will be open at all times, with the doors propped open.
Toilets have been allocated to specific groups of students and at lunch breaks can be accessed from the following locations-
Year 7 & 8 - Red toilets (top floor for female students)
