Welcome to Mrs. Beveridge's Site
Hello! This website was developed as a resource for parents of children enrolled in CAIU remedial reading and/or math classes at St. Joan of Arc School.
School Closure/Flexible Instruction Day Activities
If you are looking for ways to keep the learning progressing during days out of the building, you may wish to try these activities.
To earn stickers for your sticker chart, please bring to my classroom any of the activities that you completed. You can write me a note and have parents sign your note if the activity cannot be brought to school.
Math Students
Math students have access to ixl Math. You may login to your account to practice math skills that you are learning in classroom math. Logins follow this format:
Site: www.ixl.com Username: jillsmith123 Password: jill All usernames end with 123. Another way of accessing ixl is through the app, if you are using a tablet. ***Sister Joann's students have their own classroom accounts and should login with those usernames and passwords. Since I cannot access 2A accounts, parents should send a note with the skills practiced and time spent practicing for your child to receive a sticker for their sticker charts.
Other ideas:
***Measure objects around your house. Write down what you measured and bring your measurements to school. Older students should convert measurements to bigger/smaller units. Bring your calculations to school.
***Look at the clock when you start playing a game and then look at the clock when you finish the game. What is the elapsed time (How long were you playing the game?) Older students: Convert minutes to hours (decimal values are fine) or hours to minutes. Bring your calculations to school.
***Practice math flashcards for ten minutes.
***Older students…Make up double-digit multiplication/division problems. Calculate the answers and then check your work with a calculator. Bring your solved math problems to school.
***Follow a recipe to make a yummy treat.
***Design your own math activity and bring it to school (or write about it).
Reading Students
My reading students in grades K-4 have access to Kids A-Z where they can choose leveled books to enjoy. If you have a tablet, your parent can download the app to login. Students may choose to record their reading, take a quiz, play learning games to earn stars to accessorize an avatar or build a rocket room. Parents, if you don't have your child's login information, please email me.
Storyline Online--Actors and famous storytellers read books aloud. Each book is also accompanied by an educational activity to extend learning.
Other ideas:
Follow a written recipe to make a yummy treat.
Follow written directions to make a craft.
Read for 20 minutes to another person, pet, or stuffed animal. Write down who you read to, the name of your book, the author of the book, and a couple of sentences about the book.
Read silently for twenty minutes. Write down the name of the book, the author, and a few sentences about the book.
Write a short story and read it to another person. Bring your short story to school.
Retell a TV show/movie to your parent. Make sure to include characters, setting, problem, events (beginning, middle, end) and the solution to the problem. Write a couple of sentences telling me about the show you watched. Don't forget to include the title of the show.
