Student laptop sign-up

We are excited to be entering another year of our 1:1 laptop program. Each student in grades 6-12 will be required to have a laptop each day for classroom use. Students and parents have two options for these laptops.

Option 1 - The school will issue your student a Chromebook laptop on the first day of school. The school-issued laptops are for students to use free of charge. Therefore, there is no credit to parents who opt for their child to bring his/her own. The school offers an optional school computer protection program that will protect you from loss and damages to the computer. Additional information will be provided on the form you complete if you choose to purchase this program.

There are 3 different models of Chromebooks currently in use at CFA. They all have substantial battery life and provide an easy to use interface for your student’s Google apps account. The Chromebooks are suitable for everything we do at CFA; however, they are not good for gaming, movie editing, or other processor intensive applications.  Any student who wishes to have a more powerful computer would be advised to use his/her own laptop (choosing option

2). If your student will use a school computer for the 23-24 school year please click here to fill out the form and let us know. (If you have more than one student, please fill out the form once for each student that will be using a CFA computer.) Option 2 - Students can “bring their own” (BYOD) laptop. Student owned laptops can be Mac, PC, or Chromebook. The only requirement is that students bring their laptops to school everyday, have a good battery life, and install Google Chrome web as their web browser. We strongly suggest not attempting to use smart phones or tablets as a primary school computer; however, they can be used as a secondary device. You do not need to let us know if your student is going to “bring their own” computer. Just be sure that they bring it with them on the first day of school fully charged.

       Please update your contact information

The Technology staff hopes everyone is having a great summer! As we get closer to a new school year at Cape Fear Academy, it is time again to make sure that everyone's contact information is up-to-date and accurate. For the 2023-2024 school year we are asking that every CFA family logs into my backpack and checks its contact information. You can make any changes that might be necessary and submit them online.

In the interest of the safety and security of all CFA students, we are asking parents to update their family’s contact information to include their student's cell phone number. Having this information on file gives us an additional way to contact your student in the event of an emergency or security situation.

To log into your MyBackpack account go to: MyBackPack. If you've forgotten your password, you can contact us at itsupport@capefearacademy.org and we will be happy to help. When you have logged in please follow these instructions to update your contact information.
