Mission of the Program
At CFA’s Center for Writing and Reasoning, we believe that writing is a process of discovery, growth, and expression. Our mission is to create a welcoming and inclusive space where all students can develop their writing abilities, regardless of their current skill level. We see writing as a collaborative effort, where ideas are shared, explored, and refined through meaningful dialogue.
Our philosophy centers on the belief that every student has a unique voice and perspective that deserves to be heard. As mentors, our role is not to "fix" writing but to empower independent writers and thinkers. We encourage critical thinking and help students to see writing as a tool for learning, reflection, and communication.
We recognize that collaborating with a peer rather than a teacher can help break down the hierarchy sometimes felt between teachers and students and emphasize the collaborative nature of writing. Student writing mentors will grow as writers and leaders themselves through their support and guidance of other writers.
Ultimately, our Center for Writing and Reasoning is committed to fostering a culture of learning where all students grow as writers and thinkers, and where the process of writing is seen as a lifelong skill that extends beyond the classroom.
