This week's interviews took our students to Haven's Candy, American Roots apparel company in Westbrook, Oakhurst Dairy, Arlberg Ski Shop, and Go Go Refill.

Podcasting In action!

Our students have begun to gather audio for their podcast stories. Each small group will be visiting a local business in Cape, Portland or Westbrook to conduct an interview. Here are a few photos of our first adventures.

Podcasting workshops part 1

In this week's intro to podcasting workshop, Audio Engineers/Producers Caroline Losneck and Alice Anderson introduced students to the equipment they will use to record their audio stories. They got to participate in a practice interview and dissected an audio story into its component parts.

Medieval Africa Videos

Students had a lot of fun getting into Ms. Kaufman's props and costume box in order to make their videos about Medieval African kingdoms. Students learned how to use green screens to drop themselves back in time and demonstrate what they know about trade, leadership, art and architecture of Africa in the middle ages.

Art museum Field Trip

Our visit to the art museum was a great chance to get out of the classroom and into this great community resource.

A drawing exercise where only one partner could see the painting.

Our tour guide had us pose like the pictures.

Another great pose!

Novel In Verse Writing Project!

In Language Arts students wrote three connected stories mimicking the novel-in-verse style of the book we read. We celebrated the completion of these mini-books by sharing in small groups.

Asroneyeh!

As a celebration of our work on the book Other Words for Home by Jasmine Warga we had an afternoon snack, or asroneyeh in Arabic. The book features many foods from Syria which connects the main character to her home and her heritage.

November Celebration Of Learning!

Thursday marked the completion of our Ecosystems and Food Systems unit. We celebrated with a presentation of the students' aquaculture projects. The students created original business and product ideas for everything from oyster farms to spear fishing eco-tours and candle companies. They were incredibly creative and we were very proud of the work they did to prepare their slideshows, websites and prototypes.
