How do I know if my student is a good fit for the Experiential Education Program?
Talk to your student's current teachers to get a sense of whether or not your student is a good fit for this program. Feel free to reach out to Mr. Kerr or Ms. Kaufman with questions about the program and its suitability for your student.

How do I find out more information about recommending my student for this program?
Connect with your student's teachers during conferences. A letter from Principal Eastman will be sent by the end of May to all parents of rising 7th and 8th graders. This letter will include a link to a parent referral form to indicate your interest.
Will my student receive grade level instruction in math and language arts while being a part of this program?
Students will be in math classes outside of the experiential learning team and receive the same math content as their grade level peers. Students within the experiential team will receive language arts instruction by grade level group.
Is it true you go on field trips every single day?
Field trips, field studies, and guest speakers are an integrated part of the program and connecting with the community helps make learning relevant.* Some weeks multiple speakers might come into the classroom and others we may be out for an afternoon or two. It is all dependent on our particular unit of study.
*Field trips and guest speakers will proceed within the school district dictated parameters of social distancing.
What if my student has an IEP or 504 plan?
The Experiential Education Team works with the special education staff to implement IEP goals and 504 plans like any other classroom at CEMS.
If my student chooses this program for 7th grade do they continue into 8th grade?
We would like for students to participate for two years to experience the full breadth of the program, but it is not required.
