Welcome

The Lighthouse Library Award is a program for elementary students in Canyon ISD. Each year, ten outstanding picture books are nominated by librarians in the district, with special attention to diversity, variety of literature, appealing high-interest subject matter, and curricular areas in building the book list.

The committee of librarians use accompanying TEKS-based, technology-rich, engaging lesson ideas in a variety of subject areas each year as a foundation for our library curriculum.

Each Spring, students vote for their favorite Lighthouse book. Votes are tallied across the district and the winning book will have the Lighthouse Medal of Honor affixed to the cover. Elementary students across the district participate in this program each year.

Canyon ISD is located in the Panhandle of Texas and includes the cities of Amarillo and Canyon. The award is inspired by the Lighthouse formation in Palo Duro Canyon State Park.
