How will we measure proficiency in Canton?
We will use the ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) or the AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam. All testing will occur in the spring.
AAPPL
- The AAPPL Measure addresses the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages and uses today’s communication media in which test takers perform tasks such as participating in a virtual video chat, creating wikis, e-mailing, and using apps to demonstrate language ability.
- AAPPL is easy to administer and is an affordable option for students. The test costs $20 in total ($5 or $10 per section if a student needs to retake a section).
- Students need to score Intermediate-3* or higher on each of the four components to be awarded the Seal of Biliteracy.
*Intermediate-3 on the AAPPL rubric scale is equivalent to Intermediate-Mid on the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.
AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam
- Ideal for juniors in AP Spanish Language and Culture
- Seniors would be awarded the Seal of Biliteracy after graduation
- Students need to score a 3 or higher on the AP Language and Culture exam to be awarded the Seal of Biliteracy.
