Literacy Education is of the utmost importance here at Cherry Brook Primary School.  The curriculum model that we use is based on the Science of Reading and current brain research on how we learn to read.

The teachers at Cherry Brook Primary School are highly trained to teach literacy with a multisensory approach to ensure that we are meeting all learners where they are and moving them along the learning continuum.

At Cherry Brook Primary School we use a three prong approach to teach the foundational reading skills - Fundations, Heggerty, and the Units of Study.  Our students receive direct explicit instruction in all areas of reading - phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension on a daily basis.  The students are taught phonemic awareness and phonics in explicit and systematic lessons daily that follow a scientifically backed scope and sequence.  The students then have the opportunity to apply the phonics and phonemic awareness skills taught in authentic texts through the workshop model.
