If students who have been identified with Dyslexia and are under a 504 plan choose a CISD's remote learning plan, the following options will be available for receiving Dyslexia therapy through Canton Elementary:
Parents may choose a completely virtual option for their student to receive Dyslexia services through Google Meets. Students will be required to log into a Google meeting at a designated time each day and will receive 45 minutes of instruction. Parents will need to be available to help students log on and also to help guide them through the live meeting and help them to organize their materials, etc. These meetings may be synchronous with live classes at CES or may be scheduled with only remote students at the teacher's discretion according to case loads and scheduling face to face and remote classes. Students will need a device that supports Google Meets and will need to maintain regular attendance. Instruction will take place Monday-Thursday of each week and if there is a schedule change required, the Dyslexia Specialist will notify parents of the change prior to the scheduled class time through School Messenger.
If parents of remote learners do not want to take part in the virtual option for Dyslexia services, the 504 committee will have a meeting to continue accommodations and modifications of classwork but discontinue Dyslexia therapy. You will be able to access intervention strategies through each grade level's google site as well as any resources listed on this site.
Each Dyslexia student in the district will sign a consent form stating that they know they will potentially be in class with remote learning students and though we will make our best efforts to keep all students off camera, other students may hear their names and hear them read aloud, etc...
