REGION 10 - ACADEMIC RIGOR: UNDERSTANDING COGNITIVE RIGOR (3 HOURS)
Cognitive Rigor deals with complexity of concepts and types of thinking as we consider the depth and breadth of topics that should be taught as part of an educational experience. In this asynchronous course, participants will gain an increased understanding of cognitive rigor across content areas by watching a video, exploring cognitive rigor matrices and sample assignments, designing an assignment to share, and submitting reflection responses.
After registering, participants will receive an email with a link to the Google site that houses all course instructions and activities.
Participants must complete all required work by June 21, 2021. A Region 10 consultant will review all submitted work, and credit will be awarded upon successful completion and review. It may take a week or more after the course closes on June 21 for PD certificates to be available.
REGION 10 - FLIP THIS CLASS (1 HOUR)
What is the flipped classroom? This session will answer your question and more. Research shows us that students are far more engaged and take ownership of their learning when placed in a flipped classroom. Combining content and technology, such as google apps and interactive online resources, as a tools for learning is a win-win situation for both student and teacher. REGION 13 - BEHAVIOR CHANGE: THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLY (6 HOURS)
This course will offer practical solutions to foster increases in positive behaviors and decreases in problem behaviors. You will explore how to apply these strategies to everyday situations in an applicable and proactive way. This approach will focus on the changing outcomes of behaviors by looking at the entire context and approaching behavior from a function based perspective. Learn how to conduct a thorough Functional Behavior Assessment, select appropriate and function-based strategies, and analyze data to determine growth and next steps. This course highlights ready to use interventions and real-life scenarios. The concepts can be applied to a wide range of environments.
REGION 13 - BEHAVIOR IS COMMUNICATION (.5 HOURS)
Understanding the connection between behavior and communication is crucial to making progress in the classroom. Being able to identify challenging behaviors as a form of communication provides important information to support positive behavior change and the development of appropriate and expected behaviors.
This webinar provides information on communication as it relates to behavior: how and why we communicate and how to investigate all of the components that go into reducing challenging behavior and supporting the development of appropriate behavior.
REGION 10 - CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT (6 HOURS)
This course provides an overview of research-based components sure to help you create and sustain an environment that is conducive to learning.
THE TEXAS SUPPORT BEHAVIOR INITIATIVE (3 HOURS)
The Texas Behavior Support Initiative (TBSI) is a state-level training that meets the requirements mandated by Texas Education Code §37.0021 and Texas Administrative Code §89.1053. TBSI provides foundational knowledge for the use of positive behavior interventions and supports for all students, including students with disabilities. While the TBSI training meets legislative requirements related to procedures for the use of restraint and time-out, it also provides a framework for sharing a wide range of foundational-level behavior strategies and prevention-based schoolwide, classroom, and individual interventions.

REGION 10 - CTE CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT SERIES FOR DOI TEACHERS (20 HOURS)
It is VERY important that you FIRST register for each training session through the Region 10 ESC Registration System. REGION 10 - ACADEMIC VOCABULARY TOOLBOX (K-6) (1 HOUR)
This workshop covers language development, which is an essential component when teaching students, especially English learners. In this web-based workshop, participants will explore research-based vocabulary development activities and strategies that will provide teachers with a set of useful tools for their classrooms instruction.
REGION 10 - TIERED LESSON PLANNING (2 HOURS)
This online course is designed to help teachers develop tiered lessons for a differentiated classroom. During the training, participants will learn a strategic method for writing tiered lessons. Additionally, tiered lesson plan examples will be provided so that teachers can examine the multiplicity of ways a tiered lesson can be written.

REGION 10 - DESIGNING ASSESSMENTS (12 HOURS)
Assessing where students are in order to adjust instruction has never been more critical in this changing world. We will show best practices in designing assessments for your classroom, whatever your classroom looks like. This series is designed for all grades/all content areas, though STAAR grades/subjects are emphasized.
TEA DYSLEXIA COURSE (6 HOURS)
The purpose of this course is to empower educators to serve and advocate for students with or at risk for dyslexia. The course consists of four modules. In the first module, you will learn more about what dyslexia is and how it impacts student learning. In the second module, you will explore effective schoolwide practices for the identification and support of students with dyslexia. In the next module, you will learn more about how to support students with dyslexia in the classroom through systematic, explicit, and evidence-based instruction designed to meet the needs of students with dyslexia. In the last module - Taking Action - you will reflect on your learning, create a personal action plan, and review resources. A participant handbook is provided to guide participant learning. Participants will receive 6 CPE credits for completion of the course.
REGION 10 - DYSLEXIA: CHARACTERISTICS, IDENTIFICATION, AND EFFECTIVE STRATEGIES (3 HOURS)
According to TEC §21.044(c)(2), all university candidates completing an educator preparation program must receive instruction in detection and education of students with dyslexia. This legislation ensures that newly certified teachers will have knowledge of dyslexia prior to entering the classroom. Completion of this online course meets this requirement. The online course includes the history of dyslexia, district requirements, procedures, statistics, recognizing the signs of dyslexia, intervention strategies as well as options for parents of students with dyslexia. (Intended audience-new teachers)
REGION 10 - DYSLEXIA: SUMMER INSTITUTE 2021 (6 HOURS)
Region 10 will be hosting the Summer Dyslexia Institute a two-day event focused on helping Texas educators acquire the latest information regarding dyslexia research, student evaluations, and assessment, technology, accommodation considerations, and instruction. This year’s Institute will be delivered with a blended virtual format. Each day will have three national speakers followed by a menu of break-out session options on a variety of topics related to dyslexia and related disorders. Break-out sessions will be recorded and available to view at your convenience. (FEE $100)
REGION 10 - READERS/WRITERS WORKSHOP FOR 6-12 (MINI SESSIONS-HOURS VARY)
This series of zoom sessions focus on strategies that establish high-yield, TEKS-based practices to promote students' ability to transfer and independently apply skills. Sessions can be attended as stand-alone trainings. (Dates & times vary.)

The focus of this professional learning series is the integration of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking expected from the ELAR TEKS as well as the interconnected nature of the ELAR TEKS Strands.

REGION 10 - UNDERSTANDING THE ELAR TEKS (3 HOURS)
Course Description: This online course “Understanding the ELAR TEKS” provides an overview of the English Language Arts and Reading TEKS adopted in 2017. Participants in this course will learn about the seven strands of the essential knowledge and skills and the intended integration of these strands. Additionally, participants will explore specific student expectations (SEs) and resources to help fully understand our ELAR TEKS.
REGION 17 - BUILDING FLUENCY WITH SIGHT WORDS AND HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS (1 R)
Sight words and high frequency words are in important part of reading fluency and comprehension!
This short, self-paced session will answer the following questions:

REGION 17 - READER RESPONSE: STRENGTHENING COMPREHENSION & WRITING (1 HOUR)
Reading, writing, and speaking all go hand in hand! When students respond and interact with text by speaking, drawing and writing, their comprehension and writing skills are strengthened.
Learn the importance of the response strand in the RLA TEKS as well as strategies and resources for having students respond virtually or face-to-face.

REGION 10 - ESL TEXES TEST PREP (12 HOURS)
Who? Our district goal is for all teachers in grades PK-5 and all ELAR teachers in grades 6-12 to be ESL certified.
What? In order to be ESL certified you have to take the ESL #154 TExES test and add it to your certificate.
When & Where? There are several options listed below for test preparation. Please get with your campus principal to decide on your plan for obtaining the ESL certification.
Cost to you? The cost of the actual exam is $116.00 and the cost to add it to your certificate is $78.00.

REGION 10 - SHELTERED INSTRUCTION SERIES (UP TO 6 HOURS)
Sheltered Instruction is a way to differentiate and support your English Learners in the classroom in order for academic gains to occur. The Sheltered Instruction training includes a series of 6- 1 hour sessions that will guide the participants to learn best practices and strategies to incorporate in the classroom. Participants may register for each session separately. Our recommendation is that the participants take the introduction session first in order to get an overview and better understanding of Sheltered Instruction, the rest of the sessions can be taken in any order. This series will provide participants the flexibility to find a session that will best meet their needs and schedule.

Join us for 4 one-hour web-based, presentations via the Region 10 Online Learning Center. Each of the presentations will focus on a separate part of the English Language Proficiency Standards. These self paced professional development sessions will take participants through each component as well as obtain hands-on ideas that can be implemented into the classroom.
REGION 10 - ELPS FOCUS ON BUILDING BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE (1.5 HOURS)
The stronger the background knowledge, the more effectively a student will engage in new learning. Participants will explore ways to infuse the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) into content instruction while building their background knowledge through linguistically accommodated learning activities. Such best practices help scaffold learning experiences that build the foundation for higher order thinking skills in students’ first and second language.

The Fine Arts Summit is a two day conference packed full of learning for teachers of music, art, theatre and dance. REGION 10 - FINE ARTS: TEACHING SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (1 HOUR)
We’ve all heard about SEL, social emotional learning, but have you looked at it specifically through the lens of what YOU do as a Fine Arts teacher? As a result of this online course, Fine Arts educators will be able to define social emotional learning and articulate how it can be taught in Fine Arts classes.

REGION 10 - FINE ARTS: FROM TEACHING CULTURE TO DEVELOPING INTERCULTURAL SENSISTIVITY (1 HOUR)
We can all agree that teaching students about other cultures is a good thing, but what if it's not enough? In this course, through a series of short podcasts and the option to explore websites and other resources, participants will be able to describe intercultural sensitivity and tell why it is important for students to develop it. Participants will also examine different approaches for how to help students develop intercultural skills in the classroom.

REGION 10 - GT FOUNDATION TRAINING 5 DAY (30 HOURS)
This is a 5 day training and is a good training for all classroom teachers. Canton ISD would like for all teachers to complete this if you have not already done so. These are great strategies to raise the rigor for all students, not just those that serve GT students.

This is for classroom teachers who previously completed the 5 day training and just need the 6 hour update. REGION 10 - SECONDARY GT VIRTUAL SUMMIT 7/26/21 (6 HOURS)
We are excited to be hosting our second year of the Secondary GT Summit, which allows us to offer a more expansive opportunity for teachers of advanced students in grades 6-12. Participants still have the opportunity to attend sessions presented by the College Board. Additionally, there will be a variety of sessions designed for secondary educators to recognize meaningful differences in high-ability students and gain strategies to meet students’ unique educational needs. We are excited to announce that we will have Colin Seale of Think Law as one of our guest speakers. And as always, this is an opportunity for secondary teachers to earn their GT 6 hour update credit over the summer.
REGION 10 - GT Training Administrators & Counselors
This 6-hour course fulfills the requirements outlined by the state of Texas for administrators and counselors who make decisions regarding the education of gifted students. As directed by the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented, this course addresses the nature and needs of gifted learners, as well as service design.

REGION 10 - ACADEMIC RIGOR-MATH ACHIEVEMENT THROUGH DIFFERENTIATION (3 HOURS)
Academic rigor involves supporting students as they become increasingly able to think critically and independently. Instructional scaffolding and easy-to-implement differentiated opportunities can increase the capacity for academic rigor. In this asynchronous course, participants will earn professional development credit by applying an understanding of scaffolding and differentiation to specific TEKS for an upcoming lesson.
After registering, participants will receive an email with a link to the Google site that houses all course instructions, videos, and required activities. Participants must complete required work by June 21, 2021. A Region 10 consultant will review all submitted work, and credit will be awarded upon successful completion and review.

REGION 10 - MATH FOR ALL! DESIGNING INCLUSIVE MATH LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS (6 HOURS)
GRADES K-3
Through hands-on activities, participants will explore how cognitive processes associated with disabilities, including dyslexia and related disorders, impact the learning of whole number addition and subtraction. In this session, participants will build knowledge and understanding of how instructional supports, including the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Guidelines along with assistive technology can be used to accommodate and reduce the impact of a disability.

REGION 10 - EXPLORING THE ACT/SAT/TSIA: MATH EXTENSION (3 HOURS)
After completing the ACT/SAT/TSIA online 3 hour PD, teachers have the option to complete a 3 hour extension where they will dig into the Math portion of the tests. They will align it to the current TEKS and share out ways they can intentionally review for these college readiness exams in their math classrooms.

REGION 10 - ELEMENTARY MATH ACADEMIES $350 STIPEND (18 HOURS)
The Texas Legislature has appropriated funding to provide mathematics achievement academies that will enhance teachers’ knowledge and skills so they can effectively teach students in Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, and 3. A teacher who successfully completes a 3-day academy will be eligible to receive a $350 stipend. Important Session Information:
In the Mathematics Achievement Academy participants will:
Examine the Math TEKS based on learning progressions and critical checkpoints for student understanding;
Experience classroom-ready activities, including formative assessment and follow-up activities that account for learner variability;
Build a toolkit of strategies and key questions through analysis of activities for students with disabilities, English language learners, students struggling to learn mathematics, and gifted learners;
Explore structures that provide opportunities for meaningful practice and feedback.
ALL 3 DAYS WILL BE FROM 8:30 A.M. - 3:30 P.M.
**To be eligible for the stipend you must complete all 3 days and understand that if you previously attended, or plan to attend, a math academy for any grade level you are only eligible to receive one stipend in total for mathematics. Typography, Shapes, and Science, Oh My! Have you been looking for a way to add tools to your students’ tool belt to allow them to gain deeper learning in science? Sketchnotes may be the very thing they can use as part of their interactive notebook tasks. This session will provide you with the basics to get you started in sketchnoting and providing transferable skills to your students. We will use sketchnotes through the lens of science to enhance thinking and the processing of information.* Participants are highly encouraged to bring their own notebook and pencils to participate*. FOR THE VIRTUAL SESSION: You will need a notebook, pencils (Map Pencils are optional), and sticky notes.

Research shows us that students learn best through experiences. During this session, we will discuss how we can use phenonmena to prompt student questioning and thinking to learn content. We will look at best practices of student engagement and participants will have an opportunity to implement their thinking with regards to what role these practices will play in their individual classrooms.

This course provides information the components of autism spectrum disorders. In this online course, participants will be able to define the characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorders and identify evidence-based strategies to address the behavioral, social and communication needs of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders. This course is a training module developed by the Texas Statewide Leadership for Autism Training as a part of a comprehensive training series in Autism Spectrum Disorders.

This course focuses on executive functioning (EF) and provides information on what Executive Function is, how Executive Function deficits may impact a student, and strategies to access and develop student cognitive abilities to improve attention, behavior, and organization. Students with EF disorders may struggle with attention, organization, and behavior. These difficulties are tied to classroom performance and suggestions are made to help students with EF deficits succeed. This course will help you:
Understand how cognitive differences can negatively impact memory and self-regulation.
Recognize and describe students who have difficulty with executive functions.
Identify how trouble with executive function can negatively impact academic performance.
Learn classroom strategies to improve student attention, recall, memory recall, emotional self-regulation, time management, and focus.
